Right Person, Wrong Time

Chapter 769

While the duo remained silent throughout their meal, neither Nicole nor Colton made the first move to shatter that silence. Despite the delicious cuisine, Nicole was still overwhelmed by the discomfort brought on by the awkward atmosphere. Apart from that, the intimidating aura that Colton was radiating, as well as his piercing gaze, made Nicole feel chills running down her spine even more. When both of them were finally done with their meal, it was already afternoon. Then, Nicole shot a quick gaze at Colton and pursed her lips, saying, "It's getting late now, Mr. Gardner. It's time for me to make a move."

In the meantime, Colton only curled his lips upward and stared at the lady, standing up just as she rose from her seat. Soon, his tall stature instantly towered over Nicole in his shadow, giving off a cold and chilly energy that felt rather intimidating. As Nicole looked at the man in confusion, he announced, "I want to be with you."

Nicole was speechless, but after a few moments, she seemed to have summoned her courage and looked back at Colton. "Mr. Gardner, I just treated you to lunch as you suggested, so please don't push your luck." She paused for a second and added, "You and I should stay out of each other's hair and leave each other alone from now on!"

However, Colton only continued to keep his eyes fixed on Nicole, making her scalp tingle and leaving her feeling anxious. After staring at the lady for a moment, Colton took his eyes off her when something seemingly crossed his mind. Then, he nodded and responded in a magnetic voice, "Okay. By the way, I still have some business to attend to in my office. So, see you, Miss Anderson."

The man's words left Nicole stunned as she couldn't help but give him a strange look. Wait, what? So, he is going to let me go just like that? Strange… While she was still wondering what was wrong with Colton, the man had already walked out of the room, leaving her behind. It was then that Nicole finally heaved a sigh of relief because the man's suffocating presence was now gone. What's wrong with me? I've been through worse over those years, but why was I still scared when I came face to face with Colton?

Wondering why her courage failed her in front of Colton, Nicole fixed her hair and made her way to the exit. Nevertheless, just when she arrived at the door, she was greeted by a silhouette that stood in her way. The next second, she immediately looked up, only to be greeted by an unpleasant presence—Evelyn. Ugh! This lady is like a stubborn roach! Why won't she leave me alone?!

In fact, Evelyn was initially planning to stop Colton the moment he left, but when she saw him coming out of the room alone, she changed her mind and decided to confront Nicole. In the face of Evelyn's aggressive attitude, Nicole circled her and walked away, but Evelyn wouldn't leave her alone. After all, she was determined to have a word with her, following her wherever she went like a ghost.

Helpless, Nicole found a hidden corner where they could talk and gazed at Evelyn. It was then that she was able to finally take a closer look at Evelyn's good looks.

This lady actually looks pretty. She is as tall as I am, and she has clear skin. Other than that, the fact that she has a ponytail makes her look even younger. If my memory serves me right, she is the same age as I am. Furthermore, she is from a wealthy family, unlike me. I've been through a lot, even though I'm not thirty yet.

Despite Evelyn's good looks and decent upbringing, Nicole reckoned the only thing that told them apart was their life experience.
