Right Person, Wrong Time

Chapter 777

After sending Nicole and Hayden home, Colton headed to the Gardner Residence.

Benedict wasn't in the pink of health because of the incident regarding Ella. His mood seemed to spiral down by the day.

The instant Colton entered the house, he saw Benjamin seated on a couch in the living room. He glanced at him and called out, "Dad."

Benjamin sported a dark expression, and Colton's return didn't cheer him up. Instead, his expression turned a shade darker as he stared at him and questioned, "Did you look for Nicole?"

Colton tucked his hands into his pockets. He wasn't surprised at the fact that Benjamin had found out about it. After all, he didn't intend to hide it from anyone whenever he looked for Nicole. "Yes." He nodded.

Benjamin was so furious that his face started flushing. He stood straight up and gaped at Colton, his eyes turning stern. "Do you know that your grandpa's health has gotten worse?"

Still, Colton replied impassively, "I know."

Benjamin squinted his eyes and snapped, "In that case, why did you still go looking for Nicole?"

Colton looked at Benjamin with his pair of cold and distant eyes. It was as though the affairs of this family had nothing to do with him.

Seeing his expression, Benjamin was enraged as he uttered in a grim voice, "Your grandpa is in poor health, and because of the incident regarding your grandma, he has lost his appetite and become thinner. If he finds out you met up with Nicole again, he'll blow his top."

Colton's eyelashes fluttered, but when he looked up, his gaze turned dispassionate again. "I'm no longer a child, Dad. I know what I'm doing when it comes to love."

Hearing his emotionless voice, Benjamin landed his palm on the table with a loud thud.

His face was grim as he looked Colton in the eye. Seeing that Colton remained unfazed, he suppressed his fury and said in a hushed voice, "I know you love Nicole, but you can't irritate your grandpa again. You must not let him find out what's going on between you and her."

Colton was surprised upon hearing that. Even though Benjamin still looked slightly irritated, his expression had turned milder. Benjamin's words seemed to suggest that he wasn't against Colton and Nicole getting together.

Noticing his doubt, Benjamin said in a grave voice, "I'm your dad, and I know your temperament well. At the end of the day, the incident has nothing to do with Nicole. However, your grandpa still can't get over it. I won't stop you from seeing Nicole, but you must hide it from your grandpa."

Colton stared at him in disbelief. He initially thought that he would be reprimanded, so it surprised him that his father wasn't against his relationship with Nicole. He pressed his lips into a thin line as he was at a loss for words.

Benjamin let out a sigh. Although he was vexed, there was nothing else he could do. He took a step forward and patted his shoulder before saying, "Talk to your grandpa. He's been in a terrible mood because of what happened to your grandma back then. Don't bring up your relationship with Nicole in front of him. He's not an unreasonable person, after all. Give him some time, and he'll get over it."

Seeing that Benjamin had made a concession, Colton didn't push his luck. He knew that it was the best Benjamin could do. He nodded and put on a milder expression before replying in a small voice, "Got it."
