Chapter 818

Zachary was never the aggressive type. So, when he noticed Nicole's reluctance toward his invitation, he merely pursed his lips and let the matter drop. "It was just a suggestion. Don't worry about it, Nicky."

Even though he said that not to make her feel bad for rejecting him, the disappointment on his face was quite obvious, making her feel inexplicably even more guilty.

She was just about to say something, but before the words came out of her mouth, she heard him say, "It's okay. I'm not sad."

His attempt at concealing his disappointment worsened the situation. At least, it made her feel highly torn between discomfort and remorse. Her heart sank when she finally saw the handsome yet dejected face. In the end, she let out a sigh and gave in. "Alright, I'll dance with you."

Zachary's eyes lit up as soon as he heard that, and he could not stop himself from staring at her intensely. Nicole turned around and saw his eager puppy eyes, which somehow made her weak. She paused momentarily before continuing, "I promise I will practice dancing, but just one song only, okay?" One song was enough to embarrass oneself.

The joy on Zachary's face could not be more apparent when he finally got her to compromise for him. He looked like a child who finally got the candy that he desperately wanted after passing by the candy shop every time, only to return empty-handed.

Well, she made a promise, and it was too late for her to renege on it. So, while she felt some resistance to dancing with him, she recalled what he had done for her over the years and knew that the dance was nothing compared to the sacrifices he had made.

He did not press the matter, but he didn't even bother concealing his joy toward the end.

Siobhan called Nicole after she was discharged from the hospital. She greeted Nicole and graciously thanked her for saving her life. However, being humble and modest, Nicole did not want to take the credit.

"Madam Gould, I'm just glad that I could be of help. I'm sure others would have done the same if they encountered the same situation."

Siobhan could sense Nicole distancing herself, judging from her courteous words. So, she chuckled softly and smoothly transitioned the topic to her birthday party.

Nicole nodded but quickly realized that Siobhan could not see her, so she replied, "Yes, Gabriel called at noon about your party. I will be there and thank you for inviting me."

Siobhan smiled slightly when she heard Nicole thanking her. There was a brief pause, and suddenly, Siobhan spoke as if she had just thought of something. "By the way, arrive earlier on the day of the party. I have something to tell you in private."

Nicole did not pay her words any mind because she assumed that Siobhan probably just wanted to thank her in person. Regardless, she had been the chief designer for many years and had ample chances to socialize. So, she was no stranger to these things.

"Will do," Nicole answered before hanging up the phone.
