She trusted her son. After all, Colton would never make up stories just to avoid taking responsibility.

"Was it truly… the doing of Evelyn?" She still looked doubtful.

Instead of giving her an affirmative answer, he said coolly, "I've not gotten to the root of the matter yet, so I can't conclude. Let's talk about this again when I'm done investigating."

Knowing her son well, she gave him a suggestion after careful thought. "Why don't you head back for now? I'll take care of matters here at home. Go ahead with the investigation, but if it is indeed Evelyn behind this incident, you must not cross the line when dealing with her."

He nodded as he understood that the two families enjoyed a good relationship. Even if Evelyn was the perpetrator, he would not create a commotion.
