It was still afternoon when Nicole brought Hayden home.

After Sasha showed up uninvited, Hayden lost the mood to continue the outing. He had been keeping a sullen face for the rest of the day, indicating he was in low spirits.

Alvin was waiting in the driver's seat when Sasha returned in anger. He asked in a soft voice,

"How is it going? She declined, I guess?"

She sneered at him before entering into an explanation, "I thought she would've taken the bait, considering she has feelings for Colton."

Watching the woman's gloomy expression, Alvin attempted to help her see sense.

"According to what happened with William, the Andersons and the Gardners are bound to be hating each other. Colton can never marry Nicole as long as Old Mr. Benedict is alive."

Sasha replied in a low voice, "I understand. It's just that I thought Nicole would do it for her son's sake. It turns out I'm wrong about her."

Just the thought of being turned down by Nicole in the restaurant put her in a bad mood.

"I've done my research on Nicole. She's a rational woman," Alvin remarked without being biased.

Sasha's eyes were darkened by determination. Even though she didn't have many options left, she had to stop Colton and Evelyn's engagement no matter what.

"If she isn't going to work with me, I have to do it on my own," she announced.

Upon hearing her resolution, Alvin tried to change her mind. "Sasha, don't do anything rash. The things around Undercity are still unstable. You can't—"

Before he could finish his words, she interrupted him with a wave of dismissal,

"I get what you mean. However, I won't watch the man I love marry another woman without doing anything to stop it. Alvin, you won't understand, but that's how love works."

Her retort left him speechless for a moment. He indeed understood how it worked. The only difference was that all he cared about was her.

He didn't say anything to change her mind when he found determination on her face. Instead, he shook his head.

"All right. Do what you have to do."

Evelyn's eyes were shining in anticipation when she saw Colton. It was the first time he took the initiative to ask her out.

She put on her best outfit for the occasion today. The combination of a light yellow dress and a pair of loafers set off her lady-like vibe.
