Colton did not show too much emotion on his face as he raised his head to look at Evelyn. "You threatened to commit suicide because of it, but you have gotten over it enough that you don't care about it anymore?"

His question put her on the spot. Her attempting suicide was just to make him marry her due to pressure from the public, yet she never thought he would use that to question her.

Biting her lip, she thought for a moment before forcing a smile. "N-no. A-aren't we about to be engaged? I don't think it's necessary to get so emotional about it. The investigation can wait until after the ceremony. You will definitely get to the bottom of the whole incident."

There was only one step left in tying herself to him and she didn't want anything to go wrong. While she believed she had done everything flawlessly, he was extremely smart. If he detected even a trace of something doubtful, her dream of marrying him would dissolve into thin air.

Her multiple attempts to stop his investigation gave him some answers. Lowering his voice, he calmly said, "Well, I still have to seek justice for you. Why? Aren't you happy about that?"

At his unyielding stare, she laughed drily and agreed with him. "Of course, I am. You are so thoughtful when it comes to me."

He could also discern how forced she looked, but he did not expose her right away. Standing up, he told her, "I'll get on with my work now. I will be busy over the next few days, so just call my assistant if you need anything."

He left as soon as he was finished. Evelyn watched him go, unable to speak. I thought he was meeting up with me for a real date, but it turned out to be something concerning that woman again! How does she warrant such an important place in his heart?

She squeezed her hands as her features twisted with anger. Her eyes narrowed and something flashed within them. I will never let you go this time!

She had only closed her eyes for an instant when she heard footsteps. Opening her eyes slightly, she realized that Zachary was back.

Seeing her spread out lazily on the sofa made a small smile appear on his face. He was holding a beautifully wrapped carrier bag, which he placed on the table when he saw her open her eyes. He murmured gently, "I thought you were asleep when I saw you from some distance away."

She yawned, covering her mouth and working her neck briefly. "Nope, just resting my eyes. I heard a sound, so I opened my eyes."

"This is from the bakery on South Ring Road. I brought you and Hayden some pastries since I remember you like them."
