Right Person, Wrong Time

Chapter 885

Nicole mumbled a response. At the moment, she had nothing urgent to deal with in the country. I returned to the country previously to work with the Gardner Corporation as the Chief Designer of F&M Apparel. Now that I'm no longer F&M Apparel's Chief Designer and have no concerns in the country anymore, there's no reason for me to keep staying. At the thought of this, she couldn't help but heave a sigh of relief. Then, she nodded, saying, "Mm-hmm. Let's go back once the wedding is over."

Seeing that Nicole had agreed to it, Zachary instantly broke into a smile. The wedding between Colton and Evelyn was already set in stone. After they got married, Nicole would go overseas with him, by which time they would have all the time in the world to slowly build a romantic relationship. Even if I can't marry Nicole, it's fine as long as I'm always by her side. At the thought of this, he cheered up a lot.

Nicole was in no mood to think about anything else at the moment, though. Ruffling her disheveled hair, she pondered for a moment before saying, "I'm a bit tired. I'm going upstairs to wash my face now." With that, she went upstairs right away.

As the wedding between Colton and Evelyn drew near, news of it circulated even more wildly around Goldwick. After all, a wedding between the man at the helm of the Gardner Family and the daughter of the Wrenn Family was considered the marriage of the century, not to mention the Gardners and the Wrenns had lavishly booked the entire International Hotel for the wedding.

The next day, Colton gave Nicole a rare phone call, asking to see Hayden.

At first, Nicole wanted Hayden to go alone, but he refused to do so and insisted on bringing her with him. In the end, he even threw a tantrum, protesting, "Mommy! You're staying home doing nothing all the time now. Aren't you willing to go out and have fun with me anymore?"

Nicole was stumped for words.

The next instant, Hayden stared at her piteously with his clear, black eyes.

His stare gave Nicole pins and needles. Unable to resist him at all, she eventually gave up in resignation. "Alright, I'll go with you, okay?" She gave in. After all, she really could do nothing about her son. Whenever he pouted his lips, she would find herself at her wits' end.

Seeing that she had agreed to go with him, Hayden immediately beamed and replied, "Okay!" Then, he said happily, "This will probably be the last time I'm with both you and Dad, so I have to commit this to memory."

Hearing the boy's thoughtless remark, Nicole suddenly felt a twinge in her nose. No matter how much she satisfied her son in material terms, it wouldn't change the fact that he would end up losing one of his parents.

She thought she was very selfish, for she would never allow her son to leave her. However, seeing Hayden looking so happy, she ultimately drove him to the Gardner Corporation without saying anything else.

Colton had said explicitly during the phone call that he wanted to see Hayden. In order to prevent him and Zachary from running into each other, she drove straight to the Gardner Corporation. Having worked there for such a long time, she was already familiar with the ways around the company.

Everyone's eyes popped in astonishment when they saw Nicole come to the Gardner Corporation with a little boy in her arms. They whispered among themselves, saying, "No way! Don't tell me Nicole's gonna force herself upon President Gardner?"

"She's just relying on the fact that she bore a son for President Gardner after sleeping with him a few years ago, no? But how can President Gardner possibly succumb to her prodding? He's gonna marry the Wrenn Family's daughter this time, after all."

"Yeah, that's right! She's so shameless. President Gardner is getting engaged to Miss Wrenn in a week, no? Could she be here now with her son in her arms to threaten him?"

"Perhaps…"

The whispering continued.

Nicole heard every word they whispered to each other, but her face remained expressionless. She walked straight into the elevator with Hayden in her arms.

After the elevator door closed, Hayden finally looked up at her, saying, "Mom, those women are bad-mouthing you."
