Right Person, Wrong Time

Chapter 892

Evelyn's eyes blazed with hatred the instant she came face-to-face with Nicole. "Gabriel, why does this woman have to join our family dinner?" she asked while pointing at the latter. After all, she especially disliked Nicole. Why does Nicole have to show up in both my life and my love life? I hate this woman!

Gabriel's eyes darkened slightly. Placing his hand on Evelyn's shoulder, he said in a deep voice, "Evelyn, sit down. Dad and Mom are still here."

After giving Nicole a black look, Evelyn eventually sat down with her arms folded across her chest.

Nicole looked around at those present; a bitter smile played on her lips when she saw how Jackson and Siobhan showed no intention of helping her out. Although the results of the DNA paternity test had shown her to be their daughter, this was the first time they had ever met in more than 20 years, so they were very unfamiliar with one another.

"Take a seat," Siobhan said slowly as her beautiful, twinkling eyes fell upon Nicole's face.

Nicole froze for a moment before obediently settling in a chair nearby. At this very moment, she felt like a monkey in the zoo, being eyed up and down by many pairs of eyes.

Despite her efforts, Evelyn couldn't keep her temper in check. She said domineeringly in a shrill voice, "Mom, if you still want to adopt her as your daughter, I'll never agree to it. There's no way a woman of such humble origins who has no virtue and got pregnant out of wedlock like her could join our family!"

Nicole pursed her lips with her eyes fixed steadily on Evelyn. Then, she cleared her throat, asking, "What's wrong with my origins?"

Seeing that she still had the nerve to talk about her origins, Evelyn let out a soft snort on the spot. She replied in a cold voice, "How dare you ask such a question when you have such a father? Your father, William Anderson, knocked down and killed Old Mrs. Gardner while drunk driving; not only that, he even ran away after that. Your mother took the blame in his stead, so she surely wasn't some nice person either."

Nicole's eyes grew even colder. Staring at Evelyn frostily, she said in an icy voice, "Shut up!"

However, thinking she had lost her temper, Evelyn immediately continued with a smug look on her face, "What's the matter, huh? You dare not admit what your parents did? I'm telling you, Nicole, Colton and I will get engaged in five days, so you'd better forget about coming between us again. The fact that you're William Anderson's daughter alone makes it impossible for Colton to marry you!"

Nicole pursed her lips without much of an expression on her face. Instead, she only stared frostily at Evelyn as if the latter were a buffoon.

Evelyn was instantly infuriated by the look in Nicole's eyes. However, as her parents were still present, she dared not say anything else and merely uttered between clenched teeth, "You're not welcome here! Get out of here now!"

Nicole looked at Evelyn impassively, her calm demeanor forming a sharp contrast with the latter's towering rage. "Miss Wrenn, I was invited to be here."

Evelyn frowned. She asked in displeasure, "Who invited you?"

Siobhan, who was sitting nearby, finally answered, "It was me." She had been eyeing Nicole since the beginning. The latter looked dignified and almost expressionless in the face of insults and fault-finding, just like her when she was young. On the contrary, Evelyn only had a haughty and overbearing air about her.

"Mom, why did you invite her here? Don't you know Colton and I are about to get engaged? Did you invite her here to piss me off?" Evelyn asked in exasperation.

Siobhan could hardly conceal the look of helplessness in her eyes. Darting a glance at Evelyn, she explained, "I invited Nicole to join us as a guest today because I have something important to announce."

"Why ask me to come here if you've asked her to come over?" Evelyn protested in displeasure. She stood up in an attempt to leave, but no sooner had she straightened up than she heard Jackson bark at her, "Sit down!"
