Right Person, Wrong Time

Chapter 894

Only after being barked at by Jackson did Evelyn come to her senses. She lost her temper in a fit of rage just now, but her heart shuddered when she recalled what Nicole and Siobhan said moments ago. If what they said is true, then I'm William Anderson's daughter… No way! This can't be possible! If this were true, I'd be a nobody without the Wrenns and the Goulds at my back! Her face was pale, and her eyes reddened as she sniffled. Soon after that, beads of tears fell from her eyes. "Sorry, Gabriel. I-I don't know what's wrong with me. I-I'm sorry," she apologized in a panic before bursting into sobs with her hands over her face.

Gabriel couldn't bring himself to be harsh with Evelyn. After all, he had watched her grow up since she was a little girl. Furthermore, the slap she had given him just now wasn't hard, and he was fine except for the dull ache in his cheek. "It's okay. I won't blame you for that," he replied, comforting her as he helped her sit down with both hands.

As Evelyn sat down in her seat, she was still sobbing uncontrollably, crying so hard that she got the hiccups. After calming down a little, she turned to look at Jackson with teary eyes. Then, she bit her lip and asked pitifully, "Dad, are you guys trying to warn me in such a way because I'm willful? I understand my mistakes now, so could you please don't do this? I-I'm scared."

Jackson's heart throbbed with pain when he saw how Evelyn dissolved into tears. Even though he had been separated from his real daughter for so many years because of Madeline, Evelyn was the daughter who had grown up under his care. Thanks to the years spent serving in the military, he had learned to act immediately and resolutely. Still, he couldn't harden his heart toward Evelyn. "Everything Nicole said is true," he replied in a deep voice while slowly closing his eyes.

Evelyn froze all over at his words. So, I'm the daughter of William and Madeline. No! This can't be possible! How can I possibly be their daughter? This has to be a mistake! She turned to look at Siobhan with reddened eyes. As if clutching at straws, she asked in a trembling voice, "Mom, was everything just now a lie? Were you all lying to me?"

Seeing how pitiful she looked, Siobhan ultimately told her the truth. "I was doing business in the country back then when I suddenly went into labor about a week before my due date. That was why I gave birth in the country at the time. You and Nicole were born on the same day at the same hospital." Seeing the shock written all over Evelyn's face, she paused for a moment. Then, she continued, "There was no one attending to the babies in the hospital at the time, so my baby was taken away from the hospital after I gave birth to her. I didn't know what happened afterward."

"That's not possible…" Evelyn mumbled under her breath.

Siobhan continued straightforwardly, "I had two DNA paternity tests done in total. One of them was done on Nicole and me, whereas the other was done on you and me." After finishing her sentence, she put both reports on the table.

Evelyn stared fixedly at the two reports, but her mind was in turmoil. She picked up the reports with trembling hands and started reading them.

The report of the DNA paternity test done on Nicole and Siobhan confirmed that Nicole was Siobhan's biological daughter, whereas the report of the DNA paternity test done on Evelyn and Siobhan showed that she wasn't Siobhan's daughter.

Evelyn froze. Now that she was faced with reality, she still couldn't believe it. "Could there be a mistake somewhere?" she mumbled.

Siobhan looked at Evelyn, who looked as though she had lost her soul. She replied, "No, there's no mistake. This is the conclusion I got after doing the tests twice."

Evelyn felt her blood freeze; she was at a loss for what to do. At this very moment, she had no idea how to face such a fact.
