Right Person, Wrong Time

Chapter 912

After getting out of the car, Nicole went straight into her room. But when she was about to close her eyes and rest, her phone suddenly rang.

While squinting, she felt around her bedside table for a while before finding her phone.

Still squinting, she glanced at her phone and saw it was a call from Zachary.

Nicole forced herself to pick up the call.

"Hey, Zach." Her voice was filled with tiredness.

On the other hand, Zachary tightened his grip on his phone and waited a while before asking, "Nicole, what's the matter with you and Colton's engagement you mentioned during the press conference today?"

He was trying very hard to keep calm, but his voice still sounded shaky.

When he heard others saying that the Wrenns had acknowledged Nicole as their daughter this morning, he thought it was good news, but he didn't expect it would be followed by news of Nicole and Colton's engagement ceremony.

Everything had happened too suddenly.

It was only now that Nicole realized she had been so swamped that she forgot to update Zachary about this matter.

She massaged her nose bridge while explaining in a raspy voice, "Colton got engaged to Evelyn back then because she had drugged him and then threatened him with her life. Now that this matter has cleared up, they have to cancel the engagement. But it will look bad on the Wrenn Family if this matter gets out, so they asked me to replace Evelyn."

Having listened to Nicole's explanation, Zachary frowned deeper as he felt something strange about this matter. It must be not as simple as it seems.

"But, Nicole, an engagement is a lifetime decision. How can you just simply agree to it?" Zachary asked in a deep voice.

I only took my eyes off Nicole for a bit, and she's about to get engaged to Colton, he complained internally. He felt he wouldn't be this nervous if it were someone else.

But now, he could feel a sense of danger around him.

In the meantime, Nicole also sighed softly. Of course, she knew that getting engaged was a big decision. However, it had been publicly announced, so there was no turning back.

She forced a smile before elaborating, "Zach, it's just for show. After we're engaged, I will say that we don't get along well as an excuse to break up with him. That way, both the Wrenns and Gardners won't get humiliated."

However, Zachary thought the excuse seemed too far-fetched, so he questioned, "Don't you think this is a trap?"

Nicole hadn't thought of that, but she was so tired that she was straining to keep her eyes open, so she hurriedly replied, "Zach, it's just for show, and we won't be getting any official documents, so it's nothing to worry about. Madam Gould has explained everything to me."

Though Zachary was still worried, he felt resigned after hearing Nicole's words and stopped insisting on this matter. "I know it's just for show, but I'm still worried…"

Knowing Zachary was worried about her, Nicole assured him, "There's nothing to worry about. Nothing about it is real. We're just putting on a show for the public."
