Chapter 8

After keeping vigil at the accident site for twenty–four hours with no results, Alexander refused to believe Evelyn was dead. He ordered a media blackout about the incident.

The next day, he returned home, pale and haunted.

Sunlight streamed through the open curtains, filling their house with warmth. Yet the cozy atmosphere only highlighted the absence of the one person who should have been there.

His phone rang–his assistant: “Sir, we need your corporate seal for Miss Claire’s new film contract.”

Alexander rubbed his exhausted face, finally focusing. He walked to his study safe, saying, “Come get it. Handle Claire’s matters without me from now on.”

He froze.

Besides the seal, there was a letter.
