Chapter 120

*****Sofia's POV*****

I forced myself to stay awake despite everything I had gone through during my time trapped in Ashtons basement - my body crying out for sheer rest that I only continued to deny.

I felt guilty to rest, not when Daryl was down the corridor fighting for his own life because of me!

It was a luxury I wasn't prepared to grant myself.

I didn't deserve to rest, not yet at least.

Emma seemed to have dozed off, her head resting on my shoulder as it gradually grew numb with the longer that she leaned on it, but I didn't care too much about it.

Reid remained quiet, as he flicked through his phone unable to fully focus on anything that popped up, seeming to look up every few minutes or so towards the same door that Vincent had disappeared through earlier.

I assumed that he must've got let through to see him which I was at least glad about since he hadn't come back...

He needed to see him way more than any of us right now.

Watching the officers tie Vincent up and drag him off in the police car as though he were the one who had committed the crimes belonging to Ashton, broke me. Especially knowing how worried he must've been down at the station knowing that his best friend was here in critical condition.

Swallowing hard, I use my free hand to reach up and scrub at my raw eyes - demanding that they don't give up on me just yet.

I need to stay awake, just to find out if Daryl is ok...

It had already been long, draining hours of just sitting here waiting, seeing a number of patients come and go as the day quickly turned to night around us.

We had met with Daryl's aunt Amelia who had gone outside for a cigarette a number of times since being here too - barely saying two words each time she passed by - only offering us a small wave or a sad, painted on smile.
