Remington was silent for a long while; his deep eyes swirled with intense emotion before settling back into calmness.

He had his thumb gently brush against Lizetta's reddened eye corner, and said with a hoarse voice.

"It was my responsibility to find her. If it hadn't been for me, she wouldn't have encountered trouble back then. I owe her, and I owe the West family."

The guilt and sorrow in his eyes were dense and unyielding; those were emotions Lizetta had never seen in him before.

It was as if he, too, was just an ordinary person, capable of feeling powerless, bewildered, and fragile.
