Chapter 1591:

Jacob sat in his study for a long while.

He heard Lawrence’s steps fade into the distance. The sunset burned low outside his window, and still, he didn’t move until darkness fell completely.

For the next two days, Jacob stayed home.

He didn’t go out. Didn’t read. Couldn’t concentrate. For the first time, even his books failed to distract him.

By the third night, he locked every door and window with purpose—as if determined to cut off even the chance of Lawrence coming back.

But people are full of contradictions, and Jacob was no exception. Part of him wanted Lawrence not to return, to sever everything cleanly. Yet another part longed for him to come anyway—and be stopped at the door.

It was a classic case of someone who hadn’t truly moved on but had already fallen again—deeply, helplessly. That night, Jacob tossed and turned.

When he finally drifted off, he dreamt of Lawrence sending him a message, his tone pitiful and teasing. “You’re too cold. If you don’t leave a window open next time, I just might break in through it.”
