Chapter 1639:

As the pirate ship started to sway, Jesse’s hands grew clammy, though he kept his face calm. When the ship swung high, his heart raced, and a familiar queasiness crept in.

“Woo!” Nina squealed, loving every second.

Jesse gripped the handle tighter, his face a touch paler.

After one round, his nerves felt like they’d been through a storm.

“That was awesome!” Nina cheered, turning to Damian. “Let’s go again!” Damian, unfazed by the thrill, nodded at her excitement. “Sure thing.” As the ship prepared for another round, Jesse’s smartwatch buzzed. He glanced at it and said, “You guys go ahead. I’ve got a call to take.”

“Is it Mom?” Nina asked, curious.

“Nope,” Jesse said, checking the caller ID. “It’s Aunt Greta.” With that, he stepped off the ride and answered the call.

Seeing Jesse wouldn’t be back right away, Nina dove back into the fun.
