In the office, Julliard sat behind his desk, pressing his fingers against the bridge of his nose. Fatigue had carved itself into the sharp lines of his face; exhaustion dulled his once–bright eyes.

His secretary, Joanne Possy, approached quietly and placed a stack of folders before him. “Mr. Macaron, these are the documents you requested.”

He acknowledged her with a faint hum and reached for the papers, already preparing to flip through them.
