Chapter 404 Derailed

“Yes, there's something wrong with me!” After shooting Winnie a dirty look, Yolanda glared at Nate, her eyes reddening instantly. “There's something wrong with me because I just can't seem to get what I desire after all these years. However, it's all your doing, Nate! You're the one who drove me into the state I'm in. You seduced me first and used my feelings for you! How could you be so heartless? Couldn't you just try to take notice of me and love me?”

Nate responded wearily, “How many times do you want me to tell you? I know what I did was wrong. That's why I decided not to bother you anymore, and you shouldn't come looking for me either. Can't we just let each other go and move on?”

“No way! In your dreams!” Yolanda slowly stalked toward Nate and snarled in a low voice, “You want to get rid of me now, eh? Well, how will you pay for what you did to me? Can you even do so? Not only did you break my heart, but you also caused me to have a miscarriage. You killed our child with your own hands! Tell me. After all that, can you make it up to me for what you did?”

Winnie was flabbergasted. When did these two have a child? So, Nate got Yolanda pregnant while loudly professing his love for Yulissa from the rooftops? Is Nate that much of a scumbag, or is Yolanda too foolish? He has no feelings for her but takes advantage of her feelings to do his dirty work. Meanwhile, she clearly knows he has feelings for another yet refuses to give up and insists on loving him. Why does it seem that there's something wrong with both of them?

Initially, Winnie had thought to turn around and warn the pair not to bother her anymore. Judging from the current situation, however, it appeared as though the two were about to get into a huge argument. Not wanting to waste her time interrupting them, she turned and left.

However, Nate had been watching her from the corner of his eye. When he saw her move to leave, he immediately hurried after her and even grabbed her arm in his agitation. “Let me explain. Things aren't like what she made them seem.”

Winnie had not expected him to rush over to grab her and try to explain. Shaking off his hand, she said icily, “Please know your place, Nate Fraser. You're Xavier's younger cousin, and I'm his wife. That makes me your cousin-in-law, so don't touch me so casually in the future. If you harbor strange thoughts toward me, I ask you to put an end to them. Otherwise, you'll only be embarrassing yourself. Besides that, let me repeat this. Please resolve any personal issues you may have between yourselves in private. Don't drag me into it, or else. Got it?”

After saying that, she walked off without a backward glance, not wanting to linger for even a second longer.

Nate stood rooted to the spot as he watched her leave and clutched at his chest, his heart hurting to the point that he could not utter a single word. Everything has derailed... I didn't even know what I felt toward Winnie was something else. I merely envied the relationship she and Xavier share. Seeing how happy Xavier seemed, I also wanted someone like her. I thought that was perfectly natural. It's Winnie, after all! She's beautiful, outstanding, and charming. Hence, I thought it was a normal reaction that I was attracted to her. Those other thoughts had been slumbering deep inside my heart before today. However, Yolanda's appearance awakened my deep desire for Winnie. That makes me both excited and ashamed. I don't want to argue with Yolanda anymore. No matter what she wants to say, I don't want to hear it.

He remained silent while absent-mindedly taking some medicine to relieve the pain in his heart. However, the longer he stayed quiet, the angrier Yolanda became.

“Why aren't you saying anything? Are you crushed because she rejected you? Well, you had it coming. You trampled on my dignity and feelings, so you're getting what you deserve. Neither of you will have a happy ending. I'm going to curse the two of you! I hope neither of you ever finds true love!”

That finally elicited a response from him. “Yolanda! Aim your wrath at me alone. What does this have to do with Winnie? Come at me if you want, but I'm begging you, don't involve her, okay? Can't you see the state she's in now?”

She let out a bark of angry laughter. “What's the matter? Are you feeling sorry for her? I haven't done anything, yet your heart is already breaking for her. Did your heart break when I suffered that miscarriage? I lost your own flesh and blood!”

“I've already told you I didn't do it on purpose! I didn't mean to push you. You were putting too much pressure on me! I can compensate you. Cars, houses, money... Anything you want, just name it. However, I'm warning you. Don't bother Winnie.”

“You started by negotiating terms with me, then ended by protecting Winnie. So that's how it's going to be, is it? Great. That's just great. Let's see what happens then,” she responded with a mirthless chuckle.

Their heated exchange had attracted a small crowd. Noticing the people gathered at the end of the corridor watching them, Yolanda slipped on her mask immediately and left. Not only does Nate want to lead a peaceful life, but he also wholeheartedly wants to protect Winnie. He wishes! There's no way I'll do what that scumbag wants!

For the next few days after returning home from the hospital, Nate went to look for Winnie. However, she had no wish to see him at all. Despite that, he continued dropping by Lagune Mansion as though he did not get the message.
