Chapter 15

When Alice felt like she couldn’t take it anymore, Chloe finally showed up, running and apologizing, “Sorry, I was discussing the competition with Luke and lost track of time.” Caleb calmly said, “No worries, at least you’re trying to help the family, better than some ungrateful wretch.”

The driver said soothingly, “No problem. I’ll drive faster.”

But they still ended up late. As they reached the classroom door, they were caught red–handed by the homeroom teacher. Chloe turned pale, gasping for air,“Sorry, teacher. It’s my fault for wasting time, I made Alice late.”

Alice kept a straight face, saying nothing.

The teacher glanced at them and said to Chloe with a friendly tone, “I understand. No need for explanations. Go inside.”

“Thank you, teacher.”

Alice followed her inside, but then she heard the teacher’s stern voice, “Alice, don’t drag Chloe down again! This is the last warning!”

Alice turned back.“Teacher, Chloe made it clear it was her fault I was late.”

“Enough! I know your personality. If you keep arguing, you’ll be standing outside during class.”

Alice didn’t want to miss class as she was already behind. She entered the classroom in silence, feeling pretty down. She wished the exams would be over soon so she could escape from them.
