Caroline opened her mouth slightly, as if about to speak, but in the end, she said nothing. She lowered her head and continued eating, ignoring the tension in the air.

David’s expression darkened. He wiped his sleeve off with little care, then gave her a look. “Are you done?”

“Oops, my hand slipped. Sorry about that.”

His grip tightened around the napkin for a split second, but he forced himself to stay composed.

“It’s fine,” he said flatly. “Finish your breakfast. I’ll go change.”

Without another word, he turned and left.

He tolerated it.

David understood why Caroline was still upset–after all, he had taken what he wanted last night, ignoring her protests. She had been throwing a silent tantrum ever since.

She wasn’t letting it go. She was making it clear she hadn’t forgiven him.

He decided to let her be. There wasn’t much else he could do.
