Chapter 1

  • “Alex Jefferson, effective immediately, you are no longer employed here. Take off your uniform and scram!”

  • Alex stepped into the security office and immediately noticed James Langdon, the manager, lounging in his chair. James was sitting behind the desk, puffing on his cigarette as he directed a contemptuous glance in Alex’s direction.

  • “On what basis?” James burst out laughing. “Don’t you know that your wife’s infidelity is the talk of the town? Four Seas Corporation is the top company in Nebula City. We value our reputation more than anything. Your private affairs have seriously damaged the reputation of our company!”

  • Alex was taken completely off guard. His face contorted into a scowl as he retorted, “She cheated on me? No way! James, don’t even suggest such a thing! If you have an issue with me, then just get straight to the point. Why do you have to be so despicable as to accuse my wife of something she didn’t do?”

  • James’ smile froze. He clenched his jaw and spat, “Shut up! Alex, you’re nothing but a fool. Yes, I want you gone! You’re nothing but a piece of trash who lives off of a woman. Who are you to fight against me? I can fire you anytime!”
