Chapter 912

Lunch arrived just as Mia was pulling out some fruit from her backpack. She borrowed a small knife to slice it up for everyone to share at the table.

Jamie tried a piece and said, "Mia, where did you get this grapefruit? It's so sweet! Isn't it out of season?"

Mia shrugged, "No idea, my family bought it. I just eat."

"You live with your family, right?" Denny asked, curious.

Jamie jumped in, "Of course! Remember the first day of school? Mia was dropped off by her parents. They must live nearby. Her parents looked so classy, I was totally impressed."

"Yeah, Mia, if you live so close, why don't you just go home for lunch?" Jamie added.

Mia took a bite of her spicy salad and said, "My family's place is pretty far." Her parents' house was far, and her in-laws' even further. Though she was close to her dad's office, she couldn't just pop in for lunch there. "You seem to know everything the teacher talks about," Mia said, steering the conversation toward studies.

"Yeah, I started prepping back in junior year. Now I'm just going over everything again," Jamie replied. "Denny, you're retaking the entrance exams, right? You seem super prepared. The teacher thinks you're most likely to get in this year." Mia looked at Denny like he was a new discovery. "You're retaking the exams?"

Denny nodded, "Yeah, I didn't get into my first-choice university last year and decided to give it another shot for Havenbrook University's law program. Mia, you're an undergrad there, right?"

Mia nodded, "Yeah, I am." More than just an undergrad, she thought, if only her position as university president wasn't just for show.

"Denny, you're such a brainiac, that's amazing! I just hope any college takes me this year," Jamie said with admiration.

But Mia was thinking differently. It seemed the entrance exam wasn't that hard if he only missed by a couple of points last year and was trying again. Maybe it's not so difficult, she thought. Lacking understanding, she didn't feel the same respect.
