Mia thought back to the tangled mess of relationships she'd left behind overseas. "Yeah, we met up. He probably had something to take care of at school and went back," she said, keeping it vague.

Andre shot her a surprised look—she hadn't breathed a word about Kristen. He couldn't help but smile, a little amused and a little proud.

The truth was, Mia hadn't figured it all out herself. She wasn't about to spill everything to her parents and have them jump to wild conclusions. Besides, whoever this was, it was just her brother's friend. If there was anything worth sharing, Cooper should be the one to say it. If she told their parents, they'd just end up pestering Cooper with questions and make things worse.

Of course, she still planned to keep tabs on her brother.

"Mom, Dad, stop piling more meat on Henry's plate. He gets spoiled enough when he's out and about," Mia teased, eyeing her son's chubby cheeks.

"What do you mean spoiled? You kids have had enough trouble already. Henry's been through so much-how many times has he gotten caught up in something scary? It breaks my heart. Come on, Henry, eat more so you'll grow tall," Madison said as she tried to sneak another piece of meat onto Henry's plate.

Mia swooped in, snagged the meat, and swapped it for some broccoli. "Veggies, buddy. That's where the real power is."

Hansen listened, shaking his head. "Every year, Mia and my little grandson can't seem to stay out of trouble. You two got a curse or something?"
