Chapter 1596

No one could remember how many times they'd counted or how long they'd been sitting there. All they knew was that it felt like forever. By the time the IV drip finally finished, Leo's fever had broken. Molly went to get the car, Mia called Anya, and Leo stood at the curb, hands on his hips, basking in the rare moment of being doted on by the two sisters.

He was loving this chance to be treated like royalty.

After dropping Leo off at Willow Lake, Anya kept a watchful eye on her boyfriend through a video call, making sure he was tucked in and actually resting. By then, the afternoon was slipping away, and the guests at home had all left.

With nothing pressing to do, the two sisters wandered back, picking up a couple of roasted sweet potatoes from a new vendor along the way. Even after snacking, they couldn't resist they each had another one and, since they tasted so good, grabbed extras to bring home.

Henry had been planning to quiz his mom about where she'd been. "Where did you-Mom, what did you bring me?" But before he could finish, his eyes locked on the bag she was holding.

He ran over with excitement, practically bouncing in place.

Wayne, who hadn't seen his mom all day, looked up and lifted his arms, asking for a hug. Molly just teased, "No hugs for you."

Wayne spun around and held his hands out to his dad instead.

Just as Chad was about to pick him up, Molly swooped in from behind, scooped up Wayne, and turned his little face toward her for a big kiss. "You really believed I wouldn't hug you? As if I could resist my sweetie! Let mom give you another kiss."
