Chapter 578 Taxi Fee
Originally, Bridger and Dooley were equally matched. Both of them suffered a few punches, but soon, Dooley’s people came to find him. Then a group of men came over, punched and kicked Bridger, and surrounded him.
Bridger was the son of the Palmer family and the apple of Miley’s eye. No one would dare do anything to him. Not many people in Washington dared to offend him.
However, it was different now. No matter how well-hidden the news about the Palmer family was, it still spread fast. There were so many members of the Palmer family. Even if the servants did not dare to gossip about it, the other members would inevitably talk about it when they went back. In addition, everyone felt that Bridger was definitely going to be driven out of the Palmer family. They then stopped being afraid of Bridger and even took him as a joke.
Bridger was soon unable to resist. He could only fall to the ground and hold his head. with both hands. He tried his best to cover his important parts, but even so, his body suffered a lot of injuries. It hurt so much that his bones were about to break.
In the end, Dooley was tired and stopped. He panted as he looked at Bridger, who was lying motionlessly on the ground, and spat, “In the past, you relied on the support of the Palmer family to show off. I didn’t dare to provoke you. Now everything has changed. Who do you think you are? In the future, don’t let me see you again. Otherwise, I will beat you every time I see you!”
Then Dooley spat on Bridger. His men also laughed and left.
After a long time, the stallholder of the barbecue stall was afraid that there might be something with Bridger. He walked forward and asked, “Sir, are you okay?”
Bridger slowly got up and stood unsteadily. Fortunately, he did not seem to have any big problems.
Bridger took out 30 dollars from his pocket and handed it to the stallholder. “Keep the
change.”
Burping, Bridger walked to his car.
“Sir, sir…” The stallholder wanted to ask Bridger if he wanted to go to the hospital, but Bridger had already gone far away. The stallholder didn’t want to get into trouble, so he didn’t say anything else.
Bridger opened the car door and got in. His wound was so painful that he sucked in a
cold breath. He closed the car door, adjusted the seat, and lay down. Suddenly, Bridger
burst into tears.
Bridger had never been humiliated like this in his life. He had always been the one who scorned others from on high. But now, everyone could laugh at him and insult him. In just one afternoon, the news had already spread. As for the future, he dared not think
further.
What was the point of living like this? How could he live?
Bridger couldn’t go back to the Palmer’s place, so where could he go? Where could he be
taken in?
Bridger cried. For some reason, he thought of what Paisley had said today. Bridger suddenly stopped crying and sat up straight. He searched around and found the key in his pocket.
The small and exquisite key was bright. It looked like it had not been used much. However, why would she give such a brand new thing to him? Was the place she mentioned really a place to live or a trap?
Bridger stared at the key and thought for a long time. In the end, he decided to go over and take a look. Anyway, he had no place to go now. No matter how bad the situation was, it couldn’t be any worse than it was now. What was more, why was Paisley still trying to set him up? Or what did she want? He had nothing left.
Bridger sniffed and prepared to start the car, but he couldn’t get it started.
Bridger didn’t know what went wrong. Although there was not much oil, there was still some. After several tries, he still failed. Bridger was so angry that he hit the steering
wheel hard. He just felt he was so unlucky.
Bridger got out of the car and called a taxi. He gave the driver the address of the Yarland Garden, then leaned back in his seat and fell asleep without realizing it.
After a while, the driver woke Bridger up. The distance was quite far. In the suburbs, Bridger actually did not know where the apartment was. He looked around and saw that the neighborhood was desolate.
“Where is this?” Bridger looked left and right, surprised.
“It’s Yarland Garden! Didn’t you say it? It’s too dark at night. The infrastructure in the suburbs here isn’t that good. There aren’t many streetlights. You might be able to tell during the day. Alright. It’s 20.5 dollars,” the driver said and pressed the taximeter.
Bridger took out the cash. There were only a few dollars left. Seeing this, the driver took out the QR code. “You can scan the code to pay.”
Bridger touched his pocket and asked, “Can I use a credit card?”
Bridger only used cash or credit cards when he went out. He was not used to paying by cell phone. Anyway, he had never been worried about money. Now Bridger realized how embarrassing it was not to have enough cash with him.
The driver looked at Bridger suspiciously, clearly implying no.
Bridger felt in his pockets again and finally removed his watch from his wrist. “Is this one okay? It’s quite expensive, probably worth over 20 thousand dollars.”
“20 thousand dollars?” The driver took it and looked at it suspiciously. It seemed that he did not believe it. However, it was already late at night. Seeing that Bridger really could not find any cash, the driver did not want to delay any longer. The driver touched the taximeter and said, “Fine. I’ll take it. You can get off now.”
Bridger said, “This is really worth at least 20 thousand dollars.”
Would anyone pay a taxi fee with a watch worth 20 thousand dollars? The driver didn’t believe Bridger at all. “Alright. You can get off now.”
“Keep the watch. When I have cash, I will find you to redeem it.” Bridger knew that he would have a hard time. He couldn’t lose more than 20 thousand dollars just like that. He was still worried when he got out of the car.
The driver waved his hand impatiently. The window was closed, and the car had already
turned around and left. The driver looked at the watch, threw it aside, and muttered,
“What a nut!”
Bridger stood at the gate of the community and looked up at the buildings. It was quite new, but the location was a bit remote. He had never considered buying a house before. After all, he had been living in the old house, and it would be his.
Although there were many shops and villas under his name, Bridger had never seen them before. People were helping him deal with his properties. Now, he was no more a
member of the Palmer family. Those things no more belonged to him.
Of course, Bridger did not think that Simon would give him those properties. Bridger knew that he would only bring shame on himself by going to those places.
Bridger had set such a big trap for Simon, so he never thought of leaving a way out for Simon. But Simon was always on guard, and Bridger was now in dire straits. Simon certainly could not have left a way out for Bridger.
Bridger didn’t even look at it, but he thought that his assets must have been frozen.
Bridger looked at the key in his hand again. In fact, he was not sure if Paisley’s words were true. Paisley was weird, but Bridger thought there was nothing to be afraid of here. He had to go and see first.
With this in mind, Bridger walked in and found the building Paisley had mentioned. He entered the elevator and pressed the button for the ninth floor.
