Chapter 687 A Bad Premonition

The look on Damian's face caught them utterly off guard with his question. Only then did Callum have the chance to scrutinize his son. He stared at Damian's fair, soft cheeks and the boy's stoic temperament and soon noticed the resemblance between them. So, Callum had no doubt that Damian was his son. "Of course, I'm your father."

Callum thought that Damian would be overjoyed to know this, but the boy merely gazed at him steadily and shot him a look of disgust.

Is he disgusted? Callum thought, puzzled. Why is this little guy looking disgusted?

"You're a little sick," Damian concluded in a simple but brutal way.

Meanwhile, Elspeth shortly figured out just how Damian came to such a conclusion based on what had happened a minute ago. So, she shared a look with Callum before blushing brightly. "Damian, listen to me—"

Right when she wanted to say something, Damian turned to her and gave her a warm smile. "Mommy, I know that you're innocent. The fault lies in this man."

Callum flicked his finger on Damian's forehead. "Who are you calling 'this man'? I'm your father."

Damian warily took a few steps back but still ensured to place Elspeth behind himself as he said, "That's what you claim. Do you have any proof that you're my father? Besides, it's been so many years. Why haven't you looked for us if you're my father?"

In other words, Damian thought that it would be too easy for Callum if he acknowledged him as his father just because of Callum's words. Frankly, Callum hadn't thought that his son would be so sharp at such a young age.

Elspeth nodded in agreement. Although they did share a lot of physical similarities, it wasn't enough to prove that they were father and son. Furthermore, it had been so many years, and she truly wondered whether he had deliberately abandoned her and Damian in the past.

At the thought of this, the good impression she had of Callum disappeared without a trace, and so did the smile on her face as she held Damian's shoulder. Instead, she put on an indifferent expression. "I'm sure that I don't know you, mister."

When Callum saw the honesty in her eyes, he knew that she was telling the truth when she said that she didn't know him. Even though he had no idea what had transpired in the past, he reckoned from her expression that she had lost her memory. While he was pondering over this, the sounds of hurried footsteps echoed from the doorway.

He stared at Damian's fair, soft cheeks and the boy's stoic temperament and soon noticed the resemblance between them. So, Callum had no doubt that Damian was his son. "Of course, I'm your father."
Elspeth had heard this familiar sound countless times before and jerked her head to the door with a bright smile on her face. "There you are, Slevin."
Elspeth had heard this familiar sound countless times before and jerked her head to the door with a bright smile on her face. "There you are, Slevin."

At the mention of this familiar name, Callum's face fell and looked solemn. When he turned his head around and Slevin saw that he was in the room, Slevin kept his cool and looked at him in amusement. "It's surprising that you could find your way here, Mr. Winthrop."

"If I hadn't, I wouldn't have found out all the things that you've done."

From the solemn look on Callum's face and the hint of aggression in their exchange of words, Elspeth reckoned that both of them didn't get along.

"I'm terribly sorry that I'm late to pick you guys up. I had some unfinished business to attend to earlier." Slevin ignored Callum with ease, paced straight toward Elspeth, and casually picked up her bag as though he had done it countless times. "Let's go."

Meanwhile, the instant Callum saw just how the three of them were so familiar and happy together, he couldn't help but feel as though he was the outsider. He immediately felt an uneasy feeling rising in his chest but couldn't put a finger on the wide range of emotions swimming within him. Nonetheless, he could adjust himself to situations better than the average and quickly recollected himself, blocking their path. "Mr. Damazio, I don't think what you're doing is acceptable because they're my wife and son."

A fire burned brightly in Slevin's eyes. "How can you prove that you're her husband?"

Callum chuckled with confidence. "Our marriage is legally registered in the country."

Slevin extended right hand, palm-up. "Then, show us the marriage certificate."

The moment Callum heard that request, he lost the smile on his face. Before he rushed here, he didn't know that Elspeth had lost her memories. So, he hadn't thought of bringing the marriage certificate with him.

On the other hand, Slevin smirked triumphantly when he saw Callum's face flushing with anger. "Stop bothering us if you can't provide any proof." Then, he said to Elspeth, "Let's go, Elspeth."

Elspeth looked between the unrelated stranger and Slevin, who had been by her side all the time, and eventually decided to leave with the latter without hesitation. Naturally, Damian trotted after his mother.
