Chapter 117

Landon turned Eloise's whole worldview upside down.

She wasn't one to seek thrills in love; all she wanted was to settle down with the one she loved. Even if that person was not Harvey, she believed that one day she would find her Mr. Right.

So Eloise bolted. She was scared off by Landon's actions.

In the gazebo, Landon dropped his frivolity and watched Eloise's retreating figure with an impassive face.

The cocktail she had sipped from was still there and had a soft pink hue, looking sweet. Landon gently picked up the glass, touched the lipstick mark Eloise left behind, and slowly drank the rest of the cocktail.

Among their friends, there were many girls like Joan.

They all had quite the stubborn streak and just had different ways of being beautiful.

But Eloise was different; she had many qualities that the other girls lacked, and her background made her far from timid. She was simply the perfect wife candidate among their friends.

Max didn't appreciate her.

Harvey was too busy trying to regain his youthful pride to have time for Eloise. Landon thought, "Harvey, if you don't know how to cherish a woman, I'm willing to do it for you."

...

Before Eloise entered the banquet hall, she had mentally prepared herself.

Landon had told her that Harvey was dancing with Joan, so she imagined it to be a beautiful scene, but reality was always harsh.

They were indeed a perfect match, and their coordination was impeccable. Harvey was holding Joan's slender waist, and Joan was spinning in his arms. Regret filled the eyes of the elders around them; they were reminiscing about how well these two used to match, and it was a pity that they didn't end up together.

Eloise watched quietly.

Thank goodness she didn't get too involved.

Thankfully, she and Harvey were not truly engaged, or how would she face all this?

The dance ended.

Harvey and Joan were both panting lightly as applause echoed around them.
