Clara let the guy go and headed straight back to the motel.

She waited there until around eight, but Charles still hadn't shown up. Instead, the motel owner popped in. When he saw her alone, his eyes lit up, and he brought over a glass of water, insisting she drink it.

Clara almost laughed out loud-could he be any more obvious? Did he really think she'd fall for such a basic trick?
