'He's only doing it for his own greed and interest, yet he's making it sound as though he’ll become the savior of all living beings,' James complained internally.
Despite that, he maintained a charming smile on his face. "What’s in it for me if I help you?”
"You can ask for just about anything!" Xanthakos seemed delighted. "You know how I've always been more than willing to accommodate you."
A small frown creased James’ forehead.
Xanthakos continued to persuade James since he could sense the latter's hesitation. "James, I know that your biggest wish is to reunite with your wife and kids. We can make that happen.
"However, you must understand that US having control over the Forty-Ninth Heaven and the Wuia Palace is necessary.

"Only then could we have a chance to defeat the returned Waitara Path's Soremsia, overcome the Leere Tribulation, and protect all living beings.
"It is both the work of fate and everyone's wish for you and me to work together."
James was amazed by how Xanthakos described everything as if he was doing it for the greater good.
Yet, he did not mention a word about the Path Designation Bead, which was what Xanthakos was truly after.
If James had not been aware of the bead beforehand, he might have been convinced already by Xanthakos' seemingly sincere words. However...
James directed his gaze at Xanthakos. "You must have talked to my wife about this as well. What did she say?"
"You two have mentioned just about the same thing, but it shows how much the two of you care about each other." Xanthakos sighed and lifted his hand. A jade pendant glowing with a silver light materialized on his palm.
James was amused at the sight of the pendant. Nevertheless, he wore an expression of shock on his face.
"You recognize it, don't you?" Xanthakos smiled faintly. "Your wife said you would understand as soon as I showed you this.”
James reached his hand forward. In an instant, the jade pendant was sucked toward his palm.
James held the pendant up and looked at it carefully as though he was trying to check its authenticity.
He said monotonously, "She accepted your request."
"She hoped that you would too." Xanthakos fixed him with an expectant gaze. "It's for the sake of all living beings, after all. There are a few unresolved conflicts between US. However, we should put those issues aside for now in the face of a greater crisis."
James' eyes narrowed. "I can help you. However, I want the position of the Supreme Path in return. Besides that, my wife will be acknowledged as the Supreme Path's partner."
