Chapter 267

-Grayson’s POV-

The scent of fear clung to the air like smoke. It was thick, heavy, nearly suffocating

Even as I stepped away from the chaos of the wedding hall, my senses remained sharp, my mind processing every sound, every movement. People were still running–some screaming, others too stunned to move. Warriors shouted orders, struggling to restore order, but something about all of this was off.

A severed head alone wouldn’t cause this much mayhem.

Fear? Yes. Disbelief? Absolutely. But this… this was something else. The way people bolted, the way some seemed to be running from something rather than just the scene itself–it didn’t sit right with me. There was more to this. Something unseen. Something dangerous.

I reached out through the mind link to check on her again, ‘Elaine?‘

A beat passed, then her voice came through, steady but clipped, ‘I’m fine. I got out and I’m back at my apartment!

Relief settled in my chest, but it was short–lived, ‘Stay there. Lock the doors. Don’t open them for anyone until I say so?

‘Got it.’

I exhaled sharply and pushed forward.

My warriors had stationed themselves along the estate’s exit paths, trying to prevent people from scattering too far. They had managed to form a perimeter, but the energy in the air was still charged–frantic, unsettled. Something wasn’t right.

Then-

“Alpha King Grayson.”

I turned at the sound of my name.

Ivan was walking toward me, his face tense. He wasn’t panicked–he was too trained for that–but there was urgency in his steps.

The moment he reached me, I didn’t hesitate, “Where is Ava?”

His expression flickered. Surprise flashed across his face before he quickly masked it, “I don’t know, Your Highness. I came to ask if you wanted me to take her.”

Everything in me stilled. My eyes narrowed. My mind instantly latched onto the implications of his words.

“What do you mean take her?” My voice was dangerously low, but I didn’t care, “I had you assigned to a car with her in case Damien did anything. That car left with her. So what do you mean if I wanted you to take her?”

A flicker of something passed through his eyes–surprise, hesitation–before fear took over. He took a step back.

My mind was already working it out.

If he wasn’t in the car, then someone else was. And if someone else was in that car, that meant whoever sent that severed head had planned this.

Ava was not on her way to the safe house.

My wolf growled, the realization settling like ice ingny veins. I turned sharply, already reaching out through the mind link.
