Chapter 350: Hidden plans and truths...

Lyla

"My love, more dangerous than letting the Dark One win?" I countered. "More dangerous than watching our people become his slaves?"

"I hate to disrupt," Circe interjected. "This is what she was born for, Ramsey. You can’t protect her from her destiny."

I returned to the table, placing my hands flat on its surface. "Here’s what we’re going to do. We will divide into three groups. The first group, led by the High Priestess and the other priestesses, creates a distraction – they’ll go after the weaker Ferals and create a front assault that draws the Ferals’ attention. The second group, led by Circe, would circle around to cut off their retreat routes and take care of any surprises."

"The third group?" Darren asked.

"I, Ramsey, my elite warriors, and the three hundred and fifty changed Ferals would look for the Dark One. If we can successfully kill or capture him, that would solve our problem by half."

"How do you intend to channel the lunar energy then? It’s daytime, and won’t you be too busy going after the Dark One to do that?" Vega asked.

"Day, night... the moon is like a candle that doesn’t go out. I can still draw from its power and’ll be at the Centre of everything. I won’t look for the Dark One per se; he’ll come to me. I’ll draw his attention, at the same time, channelling the lunar energy to help you fight better."

"Absolutely not," Ramsey said immediately. "That’s risky, Lyla. You’re not putting yourself in the middle of the battlefield with less than five hundred warriors to protect you. It’ll be suicide."

"I’m not asking for permission," I replied calmly. "I’m telling you what’s going to happen."

The room fell silent again. I could feel the tension building between Ramsey and me, but this wasn’t the time for a power struggle.

"May I, Moonsinger?" Darren, who has been quiet, spoke up suddenly.

"Sure," I nodded.

"What will happen if we wait until nightfall?"

"The key is to take them by surprise, Darren," Ramsey snapped before I had a chance to reply. "If we go when they’re expecting us, how will that be a surprise?"

"I heard you the first time, Ramsey... I’m just wondering if we could shift the timing until later when the energy from the moon would be strongest and the Moonsinger wouldn’t have to over-exert herself for us."

Ramsey was about to say something else, but paused. He hadn’t been expecting Darren’s care towards me. Sighing, he dropped into the chair and ran his hand through his hair.
