Kane froze at the word “divorce.” He pulled back from my neck to study my face. “Do you even know what you’re saying?” he asked, loosening his grip on my wrists.

I drew my hands protectively to my chest and searched his expression for any hint of pain at the suggestion. But I was fooling myself.
