(Eden’s Pov),

“What exactly do you want us to talk about?” Lord Shevek frowned.

“My mother.” I quipped.

He looked away quickly. “Look, I don’t want to talk about it.”

“You will.” I narrowed my gaze on him.

I knew he wasn’t going to listen to me easily, but I was more determined.

“Leave Eden.” He growled.

1 paused and straightened up with a bitter chuckle. Lord Shevek rolled his eyes.

“You are trying to avoid me.” I said.

He sighed and leaned against his chair.

“All I need are answers. I need to know why my mother suddenly became unhappy and chose to leave!”

“Eden…” Lord Shevek called out softly. “This is not the time for this.”

I could sense the frustration in his voice. I sensed Eros’s presence behind the door,his scent comforted me.

“Fine,” I said.

Lord Shevek looked relieved.

“But…” I began again, and he threw his head back. I just continued. “If you truly loved my mother, you shouldn’t have let her go so easily.”

“She wanted to leave. I couldn’t stop her. What exactly did you think I should have done? You know Rose. Once she makes up her mind, there is no talking her out of it.”

“Not with you. I’ve seen the way she listens to you. She loves you. I said softly. “That isn’t something you should easily give up on.”

“It doesn’t seem like it.” Lord Shevek mumbled.

I understood him. My father had been betrayed before, and from experience, I knew it was hard to trust another after the pain of heartbreak.
