I hear a car door close in the driveway and figure it’s Leonardo. I thought it best if I were to check on

him. He never drank too much but I could’ve

pushed him over with what happened earlier. I may not be ready to fully forgive him but I cared about him all the same.

I make it to the top of the stairs at the foyer of the front door when I see Leo come in and gently close

the front door. I don’t think he wanted me to see

he’d arrive. Once he turned around, I gasped and ran down the stairs. Leo’s nose was swollen, his eyes faintly bruised and I could the blood on his lip and shirt. I reach for his face gently in the foyer and

look at him.

“What happened to you?” I ask with teary eyes. He immediately brings his hand over mine on his face, gently leaning into my touch.

“I’m okay. I’m glad you made it home safe.” He then starts towards the stairs and I quickly follow him to what used to be our bedroom.

I grab Leo’s hand and lead him immediately to the bathroom where I tell him to sit on the rim of the grand tub located in the middle of the room and begin getting a washcloth for his face.
