Chapter 44 A Chance Encounter

Blair just stared at Yasmin, then looked down. She couldn't help but think, 'How did I miss how much Yasmin hates Allison? The jealousy in her eyes is so obvious. They're sisters, but they're like enemies now.' As Allison was about to leave, Jasper called out, "Allison, we need to talk!"

Allison turned to look at Jasper. She remembered how, as a kid, she loved following him around because she always felt safe with him.

But when she was four or five, Jasper went abroad, and she didn't see him again until she was thirteen. By then, everything had changed. "Jasper, is this about the shares?" Allison asked, keeping her cool.

Her distant tone made Jasper feel pretty down. "The shares were Grandpa's to give. He can do what he wants with them. But you and Yasmin are sisters. Her disgrace reflects on you too. Family should stick together!" Jasper's words sounded noble, but Allison wasn't buying it.

She replied calmly, "Jasper, I'm not as forgiving as you think. I believe in not messing with others unless they mess with me first. If you think I've been too harsh on Yasmin, maybe consider if she did something to deserve it." With that, Allison turned and left the banquet hall, heading home. She ran into Alexander and Mia in the elevator.

"Allison, what are you doing here?" Mia'd been bored, but she was excited to see Allison here.

"I came for Grandpa's birthday party," Allison said.

Hearing this, Alexander raised an eyebrow. Had he known it was Hayden Bennett's birthday, he would have sent a gift.

Mia and Alexander were there for a celebration for Mason's sister, Sloane Grey, a famous jewelry designer who grew up with Alexander. She always wanted to marry him.

The Grey family was one of the top families in Skycrest and had a good relationship with the Carters, so Sloane was determined to win Alexander over.

"Allison, come with me. I don't have many friends, and I always end up sitting in the corner at these things. It's so boring. Please, Allison!" Mia pleaded, and Alexander smiled at Allison.

"It's all people you know. Why not stay for a bit? I'll take you home when it's over," Alexander said.
