A hint of loneliness flashed across that face full of jokes, but quickly disappeared. He opened the top of his convertible, turned to the woman who wouldn’t stop talking and said, “Audrey, let’s leave it at that, don’t make me hate you.”
Upon hearing him, Audrey’s face darkened. Without waiting for Bailey, who just came out of the library and hadn’t got in the car yet, Jason quickly stepped on the gas and the red sports car sped away
At Elm Street, Allison and Daisy found a restaurant to have lunch
The restaurant was run by a middle-aged woman who was very friendly When she brought over their meat sauce noodles, Allison asked, “Ma’am, do you know where I can buy cakes nearby?”
“Cakes? There are plenty of places around here, especially at night, there’s even a night market on the next street.”
The lady enthusiastically explained, “Just a bit north from our shop, there’s an old cake shop, but you’ll have to line up at this time of the day. That shop, it’s the most popular one on Elm Street.”
Wait in line?
Allison guessed it’s probably not that one. Although she was blindfolded that day, the bodyguard who went to buy the cake returned very quickly. It should have been a quick purchase, probably not a place with a long line.

“Thank you, ma’am”
Daisy was a bit puzzled, “You suddenly want to eat dessert? We can go buy some later”
Elm Street is an old district in Northfield
The street is close to a middle school, and there are quite a few students coming and going during meal times. When Allison and Daisy came out of the restaurant, they saw the cake shop the lady had mentioned
Daisy said, “Is it this one? I’ll go line up.”
Allison quickly stopped her, “It’s okay, let’s check out other shops”
“Right, there’s too many people in line.”
Without giving it much thought, Daisy pulled her along to find another cake shop.
After hesitating for a moment, Allison stopped, “Daisy, actually I’m looking for a cake for my mom.”
“Your mom? Isn’t your mom in the hospital?”
Allison shook her head, her eyes welling up with tears uncontrollably as she detailed how Lean had taken her mother away.
With all the pressure from recent events, she felt like she had found an outlet, and tears started to fall.
But she left out the part about replacing Penelope and getting an abortion.
After hearing the story, Daisy was both shocked and angry. “That’s illegal! How could Lean do such a thing!”
“Every time I visit my mom, they blindfold me, but I’ve calculated the time of the car ride. It should be this street, 1 just don’t know which hospital she’s in now.”
