MISTAKE 90

Chapter 90: Gina's plans

Gina sat in her fancy living room, surrounded by expensive

paintings and silk curtains that she had picked out herself. The leather couch felt cool beneath her as she watched her husband Martin walk back and forth across the polished wooden floor.

His footsteps made soft thumping sounds that matched her heartbeat. She could tell he was really upset his face was red, and his hands kept clenching into fists at his sides.

His niece Anya had just gotten married without telling anyone.

"You are making me dizzy," Gina said, and he paused.

"Anya says she is married," he said, and Gina sat up.

"She said that? Martin, honey, maybe we should think about this differently," Gina said calmly, smoothing her skirt with her perfectly manicured hands. "Getting angry about Anya's marriage won't change anything. She could be lying." She watched his reaction carefully, like a cat watching a mouse.

Martin stopped walking and turned to look at her. His face showed how desperate and angry he felt. Deep wrinkles appeared on his forehead, and his eyes blazed with fury. "And if she isn't? Do you understand what this means? She did not marry who we chose. What if he looks into her assets and her mother's things pop up? That is all that we own!"

Gina was always good at coming up with plans. "Martin, sometimes we have to accept what happens and work with it. Instead of trying to break up Anya's marriage, why don't we try to use it to help us? We could find out who this man is and maybe make some good connections. Every problem can become an opportunity if you look at it the right way."

Martin looked confused, running his hands through his graying hair. "What do you mean? How could Anya's marriage possibly help us?" He collapsed into the armchair across from her,
