Alaric was a dead weight, and Georgia, thin as a rail, could barely budge him.

When she finally heaved him up, creating some space from Hertha, Georgia’s strength gave out. Her grip slipped, and Alaric crashed down on top of Hertha.

Hertha groaned in pain, frowning in discomfort.

Alaric stirred slightly, then rolled off and sprawled onto the bed, regaining a bit of consciousness.

Georgia’s heart raced, her hand clapped over her mouth, terrified that Alaric or Hertha would wake up.

After a few tense seconds, Hertha lay still as a statue, showing no signs of waking.

Alaric, on the other hand, took deep breaths with his eyes shut tight in discomfort, his brow furrowed. He pressed a hand to his forehead, seemingly shielding his eyes from the piercing light of the room.
