Chapter 9 Mr John Can Feel for Lily Too!

“Lily, I’ve got afternoon tea with some friends tomorrow. Make a few plates of pastries and send them over before noon.”

Yvonne always looked down on Lily. As the adopted daughter cast out by the Ginger family, Lily had always been beneath her in Yvonne’s eyes. Every time she spoke to her, it was with a condescending sneer.

She rolled her eyes with her usual arrogance and added, “Also make me a pretty dress in a new design. I’ve got an important banquet next weekend, and I need it done within the week.”

Her contempt was so obvious it practically dripped from her tone.

In the past, Lily could feel Yvonne’s disdain. But because Yvonne was the daughter of John’s late aunt–his only remaining relative–she used to treat her sincerely, purely out of love for him.

Too bad sincerity couldn’t buy sincerity in return.

Now that she didn’t even want John anymore, why would she keep indulging Yvonne?

“I’m busy. Not doing it.”

“Fine, then make a wider variety of pastries this time. It’d be best if-‘

Yvonne paused mid–sentence, suddenly realizing what Lily had said.

She’d said no.

She’d always buttered her up before–how dare she refuse now?

Yvonne exploded. “Lily, what the hell? You think I’m begging you to do this? Let me tell you, if I want something, I can find plenty of people who’ll jump at the chance to bake and sew for me!”

“Mm.” Lily nodded indifferently. “So go ask them.”

She wasn’t even going to smooth things over?

She was really refusing?

Lily didn’t even spare her a glance as she walked off, leaving Yvonne stomping in frustration.

“Lily! You treat me like this, aren’t you scared I’ll tell my cousin? He cares about me the most! If he finds out how you’re bullying me, he’ll be furious!”

Once upon a time, that threat would’ve worked. Lily had always been terrified of upsetting John. Terrified he’d stop talking to her.

But not anymore.

She didn’t even pause or look back. “Do what you want.”
