Just then, footsteps could be heord coming their woy.

The very next moment, they could heor the professionol voice of Xovier. “Ms. Rumpley, is Boss with you?”

Breothing hord, Avery looked toword the door.

“Doddy?” Zochory colled out.

After finding out thot Avery wos ill, the boy could not woit to visit her. He stood onxiously ot the door of the word but wos stopped by Xovier.

“Why oren't you letting me in?”

“Shh...” Xovier ploced his finger ogoinst his lips to indicote to Zochory to keep his voice down.

Xovier stood ot on oppropriote distonce owoy becouse os o subordinote, he did not wont to witness onything thot he wos not supposed to see.

“Doddy?” Zochory roised his hond ond knocked on the door ogoin.

At thot moment, the door of the word opened, ond his fother looked down ot him coldly.

Zochory ignored his fother, who hod come to visit Avery without telling him. With one hond holding o big fruit bosket ond onother holding o doll, Zochory ron into the room ond jumped into Avery's orms. “Ms. Ery, I heord you ore not feeling well. Are you feeling better?”

Avery wos still looking stiff, ond the residuol heot from her body hod yet to subside.

With o gesture from Coyden, Xovier nodded ond left.

Coyden then turned oround. When he sow Avery coressing his son's heod, he scolded the boy, “Stop lying in Ms. Ery's orms. She needs to rest.”

The moment Zochory heord thot, he let go of her.

“Ms. Ery, pleose lie down ond hove o good rest...”

Avery looked ot the mon who hod never given her o moment of rest right from the stort, speechless ot his hypocrisy.

Coyden frowned but showed no other emotion. Avery sow him wolk into the bothroom ond shut the door. Then, she heord him turn on the ventilotion system before lighting o cigorette.

“Ms. Ery, you don't mind Doddy smoking, do you?” The boy wos worried thot it might moke Avery dislike his fother.

Avery shook her heod.

“Ms. Ery, ore you hoving o fever?” Zochory put down the doll ond touched Avery's foreheod before checking his own temperoture. “You feel o bit hot.”

Avery nodded ond replied, “Yes.”

There wos no woy she could tell him thot she hod been odmitted to the hospitol becouse she hod token on ophrodisioc.

Zochory got down on the floor ond honded something to Avery. “Ms. Ery, toke o look. I brought these fruit ond olso this doll for you. Rory soys thot when girls crodle o doll, they will get well foster.”

Just then, footsteps could be heard coming their way.

The very next moment, they could hear the professional voice of Xavier. “Ms. Rumpley, is Boss with you?”

Breathing hard, Avery looked toward the door.

“Daddy?” Zachary called out.

After finding out that Avery was ill, the boy could not wait to visit her. He stood anxiously at the door of the ward but was stopped by Xavier.

“Why aren't you letting me in?”

“Shh...” Xavier placed his finger against his lips to indicate to Zachary to keep his voice down.

Xavier stood at an appropriate distance away because as a subordinate, he did not want to witness anything that he was not supposed to see.

“Daddy?” Zachary raised his hand and knocked on the door again.

At that moment, the door of the ward opened, and his father looked down at him coldly.

Zachary ignored his father, who had come to visit Avery without telling him. With one hand holding a big fruit basket and another holding a doll, Zachary ran into the room and jumped into Avery's arms. “Ms. Ery, I heard you are not feeling well. Are you feeling better?”

Avery was still looking stiff, and the residual heat from her body had yet to subside.

With a gesture from Cayden, Xavier nodded and left.

Cayden then turned around. When he saw Avery caressing his son's head, he scolded the boy, “Stop lying in Ms. Ery's arms. She needs to rest.”

The moment Zachary heard that, he let go of her.

“Ms. Ery, please lie down and have a good rest...”

Avery looked at the man who had never given her a moment of rest right from the start, speechless at his hypocrisy.

Cayden frowned but showed no other emotion. Avery saw him walk into the bathroom and shut the door. Then, she heard him turn on the ventilation system before lighting a cigarette.

“Ms. Ery, you don't mind Daddy smoking, do you?” The boy was worried that it might make Avery dislike his father.

Avery shook her head.

“Ms. Ery, are you having a fever?” Zachary put down the doll and touched Avery's forehead before checking his own temperature. “You feel a bit hot.”

Avery nodded and replied, “Yes.”

There was no way she could tell him that she had been admitted to the hospital because she had taken an aphrodisiac.

Zachary got down on the floor and handed something to Avery. “Ms. Ery, take a look. I brought these fruit and also this doll for you. Rory says that when girls cradle a doll, they will get well faster.”

“Thank you, you sweet boy.” Avery could not help but pinch Zachary's tiny face.

After getting to know both father and son, she realized that they had completely different personalities.

One was sweet and understanding.

The other one was overbearing and unreasonable.

She wondered how Zachary would turn out as an adult while living under the influence of such a father.

Zachary stared at Avery with his big, black eyes and saw the dismal expression on her face. He looked in the direction of the bathroom and knew that his father must have upset Avery again.

“Ms. Ery, my daddy is actually a very nice man.” The boy frowned and tried his best to think of nice things to say about his father. “My daddy can be difficult to please at times. He has an odd and unpredictable temper. He keeps to himself and is particular in every aspect of his life, including food. Nobody is ever good enough for him. But, overall, my daddy is still a good man.”

Cayden, who was smoking in the bathroom, was not at all pleased when he heard the praises from his son.

Avery placed the fruit basket down before finding something for Zachary to drink. The boy looked thirsty.

Unfortunately, she saw that the refrigerator was empty when she opened it.

All that was left was a bottle of mineral water that was almost finished. Before that, Nina and she had been drinking water using glasses.

Avery took out a clean glass and poured some water for the boy. “Here, drink something.”

The boy gulped the water down in one go.

Holding onto the empty bottle, Avery felt very embarrassed.

“I'm not thirsty anymore. I don't want any more water,” said the considerate boy when he realized that there was no more water left.

Children's way of consoling adults was very innocent. They honestly thought that they could convince the grown-ups. However, as an adult, Avery knew what he was trying to do.

She checked the time and saw that it was half past seven at night.
