Zachary spent the night sleeping in his father's bed.

The next morning, he woke up surprisingly early and ran back to his room.

After brushing his teeth, he went looking for Rory in her room. “Mommy is still alive!” he said while opening the door.

“What are you talking about, Zach?” Rory asked with her head slightly tilted in confusion.

“I said, our mommy is still alive!” Zachary repeated himself as he knelt down and helped put her shoes on. He then held her hand and brought her toward another room in the mansion.

The housekeeper saw what they were doing but didn't give it much thought.

Zachary had Rory stand guard outside while he sneaked into Kendrick's room. He tiptoed his way across the room, grabbed Kendrick's phone from the table, and tiptoed out of the room.

“Did you get it, Zach?” Rory asked with her eyes wide.

Zachary nodded and led Rory to a secluded spot before making a call with the phone.

Meanwhile, on the outskirts of the city, Grover was going on a morning jog with his wife when his phone started ringing.

The two of them paused in their tracks, and Grover frowned when he saw the caller ID.

“It's Kendrick, the second son of the Moore family,” he said with a frown.

“Why is he calling you?” Lindsay asked in confusion.

The two of them had been working for the Moore family since twenty years ago. Jeffrey had stepped down to let his son take over, but his son died of a severe illness a few years later, so he had to return to power.

Grover and Lindsay started working for Cayden when he returned to the Moore family.

Thanks to his excellent genes, Cayden had an incredibly high IQ and was a natural leader.

On top of that, he showed no signs of his father's infidelity, promiscuity, and fickleness.

It had been thirteen years since Cayden returned to the Moore family at the age of sixteen. Grover and Lindsay were no longer capable of supporting the illegitimate son that the family used to reject. Fortunately, Cayden had already matured and firmly secured his position in the household.

After retiring, the two of them constantly lived in fear of the Moore family looking for them, as those that came had bad intentions.

Many had tried asking them for information on Zachary and Rory's biological mother over the past five years.

After a brief moment of hesitation, Grover answered the call. “Hello, Mr. Kendrick.”

Instead of Kendrick's voice, all he heard was a child saying, “Hi, Mr. Hayward!”

“Mr. Zachary?” Grover was shocked.

“Can I ask you something, Mr. Hayward?” Zachary asked politely.

“Sure thing! I'll tell you everything I know.”

I know Mr. Hayward is just saying that out of courtesy. He wouldn't actually tell me everything.

With that in mind, Zachary said in a depressed tone, “Last night, my daddy told me that my mommy is still alive. Mr. Hayward, everyone says you and Mrs. Hayward know my mommy. Could you tell me if my mommy will come back for us? Will my daddy remarry her?”

Those questions really caught Grover off guard, and he was stumped.

Not wanting to reveal anything he shouldn't, he replied, “I don't think they'll remarry. It seems your mother already has a boyfriend.”

Grover and Lindsay had gone traveling to Ustrana last year, and they had happened to be staying near Avery's university.

Since Cayden had arranged for someone to take care of them after their retirement, he was well aware of their trip to Ustrana. As such, Grover wasn't sure if Cayden had deliberately arranged for them to stay near Avery's university. Upon returning to the country, he told Cayden that Avery had found herself a boyfriend there and that the couple seemed to have a good relationship.

Grover tried to sound as casual as possible when he mentioned that, but he made sure to observe Cayden's expression after hearing the news.

As the look on Cayden's face turned incredibly gloomy in response, Grover was certain that he had feelings for Avery.

Had Avery not found herself a decent boyfriend, she and Cayden could have probably become a couple. After all, Avery had birthed Cayden's children.

Given how Cayden had had sex with Avery for an entire month back then, Grover firmly believed that there were romantic feelings involved.

Being a man himself, Grover knew full well how intense a man's desire for sex could get. However, Cayden had stopped having sex completely after that one-month period from five years ago. In fact, he never had any women around him throughout the past five years.

The only logical explanation that Grover could think of was that he still had feelings for Avery.
