After putting on a pair of slippers, Avery immediately took Rory from Cayden's arms.

“Have you had your dinner? Are you hungry?” she asked tenderly, looking every inch like a doting mother worried about her child's well-being.

“Yes, I've eaten. I'm not hungry,” Rory replied, her voice so cute and sweet that Avery couldn't help but break into a smile.

Cayden made his way out to the terrace and promptly lit a cigarette. As he turned around, he gazed at the mother-daughter interaction through the windows.

One of Rory's eyes might have a bandage applied to it, but that didn't stop her from lighting up as she talked to Avery.

It was clear from the twinkle in her eye that she was genuinely happy.

However, the more Cayden stared at the pair, the more his gaze darkened.

Meanwhile, Avery was still reluctant to pry her lips away from Rory's soft cheeks. She stood in the living room, breathing in the child's natural scent and indulging the latter as her own daughter. “Say, would you like me to give you a bath?” she asked.

Rory nodded eagerly. “Okay! Baths make me smell nice.”

With that, Avery carried the little girl and strode to the bathroom.

Zachary, who had packed his bags, stood obediently at the bathroom door. “Ms. Ery, you can find the switch inside and the baby shower gel in the white bottle...” he uttered, rambling on until Avery remembered every detail.

When the sound of running water rang out, he added, “Ms. Ery, let me know if there's anything you need. I'll be right outside.”

Avery removed Rory's clothes and set them aside in a neat pile.

Needless to say, she was happy and relieved to hear Zachary's words. Even though the kid grew up in the wealthy Moore family with a sullen oddball father, he still turned out to be so sensible and adorable. What a rare sight!

The next second, Avery cupped Rory's face and replied, “Okay, I got it. Thank you, you sweet boy.”

Zachary leaned against the wall outside the bathroom, face flushed from the compliment as he lowered his head and played with his fingers.

Having finished smoking, Cayden returned to the living room, only to find it empty.

He began walking toward the bedroom, and that was when he heard the sound of running water and saw his son at the bathroom door, staring bashfully at his fingers.

Cayden furrowed his brows, not knowing what was going through the little boy's mind. “What's with that expression? Are you having cramps?”

“I-It's because Ms. Ery praised me...” Zachary stammered as his face turned an even darker shade of red.

Unfortunately, Cayden couldn't understand that, nor did he have anything to say.

Just then, the sound of a phone vibrating wafted from the living room. However, when Cayden turned to look, all he saw was Avery's bag on the couch.

After glancing at the closed bathroom door, he decided to march back into the living room.

Upon taking Avery's phone out and realizing the caller was none other than Dylan, Cayden frowned and ended the call without hesitation.

Meanwhile, bath time for Rory was proving to be quite a feat, especially since the wounds around her injured eye couldn't get wet.

Because of that, Avery held the shower head in her hand and slowly washed the little girl with it.

Alas, Rory had other plans. From a young age, she had always envied other kids for being able to splash around in the water with their mothers. Now that she had Avery with her, she couldn't help but get up to mischief.

Before long, Rory's giggles and shouts rang out from the bathroom. “Hehe...”

“Ah! Stop messing around...” Avery gently chided, though her voice was full of love and adoration.

After three minutes, the sound of rushing water stopped, and the bathroom was quiet once again.

On top of smelling nice, Rory was clean from head to toe. Avery had washed her messy hair well and even painstakingly wiped her face with a towel.

Because of that level of care, not a single drop of water came into contact with the little girl's injured left eye.

Having wrapped Rory's hair with a towel, Avery ushered her out of the bathroom. “Does your eye hurt?” she asked concernedly.

The little girl knew from the doctor that there would still be a bit of pain, but as long as she didn't scratch her wound and changed the dressing the next day, her eye should heal in a few days.

“It doesn't hurt when you're here, Ms. Ery,” Rory exclaimed with a chuckle.

Hearing that, Avery stepped out of the bathroom and proceeded to towel dry the girl's hair. Oh, how I love the feeling of being needed by Rory.

That night, Dylan entered a bar and immediately made a beeline for the back door.

A dark alley lay right outside the exit, but interestingly enough, there were doors on both sides.

As it turned out, the bar had become one of Dylan's properties many years ago.

“Hi, Mr. Musk,” one of the waiters greeted with a polite nod when he walked past Dylan. However, when he saw the woman following behind, he quickly held his tongue and continued serving the guests.

Meanwhile, Dylan was still trying to get through to Avery's phone.

Initially, his calls were merely left unanswered, but after a few more tries, he heard the dreaded automated voice message. “Sorry, the number you have dialed is currently unavailable.”
