Avery's heart kept racing whenever she took a whiff of Cayden's body scent. It took her a while for her to stop panting and come to her senses.

“Did you have a nightmare?” Cayden planted a kiss on the woman's forehead and tucked her hair behind her ears. He looked at her porcelain-white face and wet eyes and comforted her. “I'm here with you, don't worry.”

Avery was relieved that it was just a dream.

When she opened her eyes and looked around, she realized the actual world was not as bad as she had imagined.

She grabbed Cayden's muscular back with one hand and clenched the man's shirt with her other hand. Upon hearing his words of comfort, she opened her mouth, but words caught in her throat.

The tiny room fell silent.

It took Avery a while to realize she was holding onto Cayden. She eventually released him and retracted her hands.

The man's shirt looked all crumpled up.

“I'm sorry. I'll help you iron it.” Avery did not know what else to say.

When she was about to get up from the bed, Cayden pulled her into his chest and uttered authoritatively, “Get back here and sleep. It's still early.”

Avery could feel the warm moisture in the man's breath on her ear and cheek, and she could feel how close they were.

Not sure if it was because of an increase in temperature or Cayden by her side, Avery felt warm and fell asleep more easily.

Since she was eighteen years old, she had not had the luxury of catching up on sleep after waking up in the morning.

The warmth and scent that Cayden gave out made Avery feel safe. Admittedly, she would still fall for his charm from time to time. I guess I'm allowed to be infatuated with him since I'm still half awake.

Her eyelashes stopped fluttering, and the intense breathing caused by the nightmare had also subsided.

This time, Avery could finally sleep in peace.

...

The bed in the room was tiny. It might be a double bed, but it could not quite fit two adults. Those with long legs might hang in mid-air if they were to sleep on the bed.

Whenever Avery slept on that bed with Rory, she would not toss and turn to avoid crushing the five-year-old.

Meanwhile, Cayden did not even catch a wink though he was extremely sleepy.

He continued working in the office until five in the morning. Since there was no traffic jam at that hour, he reached the rented unit in less than thirty minutes.

After opening the door with the spare key in his pocket, he went to Zachary's unit.

The boy, who was in a deep slumber, slept on top of the blanket instead of underneath it.

After pulling the blanket over to cover Zachary's legs, he went to Avery's room.

Compared to Zachary, Rory had a better sleeping posture though she might change poses in her sleep.

When Cayden was about to shut the door and leave, he heard a sound from the bed. He turned around and saw Avery frowning and breaking out in cold sweat as if she was struggling to escape from something.

Cayden had no idea what her dream was about. He walked over and tried to wake her up.

Avery continued to mumble words that Cayden could not understand.

He went up and leaned sideways on the bed. While he was embracing her, holding her hand, and kissing her forehead to comfort her, he could hear the woman clearly, “Don't leave. Please don't leave.”

Cayden could not help but knit his brows upon hearing those five words. She must be dreaming of something that's bothering her.

He did not know who appeared in her dream. Who is she begging so miserably?

Cayden thought Avery must have longed for motherly love since she had never experienced it since she was a child. I'm sure she wants to know who her mother is.

Just like Zachary and Rory, they had never asked about their mommy and would suffer in silence. But deep in their hearts, they had always wished they had a mother.

Now that Avery had entered their lives, the twins, who were fond of her, had become highly dependent on her without knowing that she was their biological mother.

Cayden continued to calm Avery down, hoping she was dreaming about her mother and trying to beg her to stay. He hoped she was not persuading someone else to stay. She better not think of her useless ex-boyfriend, Zayne. He's not worthy of her love!

Cayden wished Zayne would rot in jail when he recalled how the cops told him that the latter had sold Avery's nude photos to other men for money!

While the man was still overwhelmed with jealousy, he heard Avery plead in fear again, “You said you want me, right? Take me. Do what you want with me, but please don't take Zach and Rory away...”

At that moment, the only man that appeared in Avery's dream was Cayden.

Cayden hugged the woman even more tightly. He had never even consoled Rory like what he was doing now. He stayed still, allowing the woman to pull his shirt and scratched his back.
