It was eleven o' clock on a Monday morning.

Avery had never expected to receive a call from Dylan himself, asking her to wait for him in front of City Hall so they could file their divorce.

She was initially taken aback.

I thought I'd have to go through hell just to end our marriage or that he'd insist on a tough lawsuit. Who knew he'd decide on this so easily?

Despite clearly knowing that she would invite more criticism by applying for more leave—due to having already taken so many days off in the past—the woman ultimately endured her department head's glare and requested another day off. She was just so desperate to leave her marriage at this point.

Then, she hastily made her way over to City Hall.

Avery stood by the roadside and glanced at her phone anxiously. He's still not here yet. Is he backing out at the last minute?

Yet, she spotted Dylan's silhouette coming her way just as she was about to give him a call.

The man looked dashing as usual, his eyes exuding a radiant glow as always. The sight of him making countless women turn their heads to look at him and smile bashfully as he walked past made Avery shake her head in defeat.

These girls obviously have no idea what he's capable of behind those charming looks. He's the epitome of a wolf in sheep's clothing.

The more Dylan neared her, the colder Avery felt.

Her limbs stiffened as a tense feeling spread through her.

Perhaps whatever happened that night was far too traumatizing and humiliating for her as she could never forget how he had nearly violated her back then.

Dylan stared at Avery in a daze.

She looked as gorgeous as always, but today, the chilly weather had resulted in a thin layer of frost on her long eyelashes, making them look like butterflies fluttering their wings whenever she batted them.

Dylan had thought he should give up on the woman who had absolutely no feelings for him, but his heart couldn't help but beat faster as he saw her like this.

He even began to tell himself, If she treats me just a little better or pays me more attention, I would never let go of her even if Cayden puts me behind bars again! I'd gladly fight to the death with him over her!

Yet, the woman's words immediately shattered his calm. “Now that you're here, let's get this over with.”

Dylan kept his eyes glued on her, not wanting to look away.

He grabbed her by the arm, unable to conceal the rage in his voice. “Do you want to leave me that badly, Avery? Are you that looking forward to throwing yourself into Cayden's arms?”

“What are you trying to do in public, Dylan?” Avery jumped in surprise at his sudden outburst.

She tried to shake him off, only to be held more tightly and pulled into his embrace.

“Don't do this, Dylan!” she murmured while trying to shove him away. “I told you we're not meant for each other. You'll definitely find someone else whom you can get along with better.”

Dylan's lips thinned as his expression clouded over.

He despised the words “not meant for each other” so much and was on the verge of cussing.

He caressed her tender face with his cold fingers. She looked so pure and sweet, but the repulsed expression on her face filled him with despair.

The man thought he had done so much for her, even going against his own parents and family for her sake. He believed she was as cold as ice, and it was his onus to make her warm up to him.

Little did he realize that this woman's heart was colder than a glacier.

Avery balled her hands into fists and stomped on Dylan's foot with the back of her high heel. “I'm leaving you no matter what, Dylan. If you refuse to get it done today, you can go home and wait for my lawyer's letter, but I believe none of us would benefit from a falling out like that!”

Avery was firm in her decision to get a divorce.

She had to end this miserable relationship no matter what it took. Being forced to stay with him was nothing but torture. Her words stabbed into Dylan's heart like a knife.

Gazing at the determined look on her face, he suddenly let go of her. “Okay. Let's go.”

She feels nothing for me, so forcing her to stay will only make her hate me more. Why bother?

The man strode into the building, looking utterly desolate.
