It was true that there was something about Cayden that charmed women, but he had always been indifferent to Nicole—always polite and distant.

Nicole could not understand it. She had already given herself to him, but he was still as cold as ever toward her.

“Mr. Moore...” Nicole pursed her lips as a shy expression crept onto her face.

Thinking about the intimate way he had been with me the other day...

Nicole wrung her hands and softly asked, “Have you forgotten what happened between us on my grandpa's birthday?”

Cayden lifted his head to glance at Nicole. His gaze remained icy as he registered the blush on her face. “What could have happened between us? I was with Avery the entire time. Ms. Nicole, I don't know who gave you the wrong idea about my being interested in you, but I'll have to clarify things today. The one and only woman I love is Avery Rumpley. I loved her in the past, I still love her now, and I will continue to love her only. By the way, please convey a message to your mother when you go back. My relationship isn't something others can intervene in. Please ask her to stop troubling Avery and come to me instead. I have other things to attend to, Ms. Nicole, so I'll be taking my leave now.”

Nicole could only watch with wide eyes as Cayden's slender figure disappeared from her line of sight. Then, she let out a mocking chuckle.

She was in a public space, so she forced herself to calm down.

I can't believe Cayden said he was with Avery the entire time during Grandpa's birthday. But I don't think he's the kind to lie. Could it really be that the man of that night was not him?

That thought made Nicole's heart sink.

But there's another possibility. Those under that drug's influence would not be conscious of their surroundings and would not remember what they've done. Could it be that he doesn't remember what happened that night?


Naturally, Nicole preferred the second possibility.

Nevertheless, a siren was still ringing somewhere deep in her mind, and her heart was palpitating.

It felt as if some things had spiraled out of her control.

After Nicole rushed out of the photography department, the employees of the advertising department began gossiping in excitement.

One of the female employees uttered, “Big news! Didn't the rumors say that Nicole is with Mr. Moore? I hear that their families are a match in social standing, and they were even thinking of having a marriage so the families would be united, but from what we've seen today, it doesn't seem like that's the truth.”

“That's right. Anyone with eyes would be able to see that our CEO treats Avery from the design department differently. It can't be that Nicole has a crush on Mr. Moore, right?” said another female employee.

“Who knows? No one can figure out Mr. Moore's matters. The way Mr. Moore treats her doesn't seem like the way a boyfriend would treat his girlfriend. She's clearly nothing but a stranger to him.”

“Ahem...” The advertising department's manager walked over and gave everyone a stern look. “Do you have too much time on your hands? How dare you discuss our CEO's private life like this? Are you all tempted to lose your jobs?”

Instantly, the women fell silent. After sharing a look with each other and sparing the manager one last glance, they hurried back to their workstations to continue working.

Nicole returned to her company in a daze. Just as she stepped into the building, the private investigator called her.

“Hello?”

“Ms. Lambert, are you free right now? I've found some confidential information, and I'd like to hand them to you now.” The private investigator sounded like he was in a good mood.

As Nicole's phone volume was high, the voice coming out of the speakers drew the attention of some well-known actors in the company.

Her heart lurched, and she quickly lowered the volume. Then, she went to a remote corner and said, “I'm at the office right now, so come over here. I'll be waiting at the newly-opened restaurant near my company.”

Half an hour later, the bearded private investigator found Nicole in a private room and handed her a stack of documents.

Nicole skimmed through the contents of the documents, and her hands began to shake. “A-Are these real? You're not lying to me, are you?”
