She ended the call in a huff.

After Nicole hung up, Allie's call arrived. This time, she called Cayden's phone directly.

Cayden answered the call and said indifferently, “Mom, it's late. Why are you calling at this hour?”

Allie said earnestly, “Cayden, did Nickie call you earlier? Listen, things will be easier with Nickie's help. Be nice to her. She's a pretty and nice girl with an influential background. Most importantly, she loves you. I think she suits you better than Avery. Cayden, you need to treasure her—”

Frowning in annoyance, Cayden cut in, “Mom, I thought I had made myself clear. I don't like Nicole, so we'll never end up together! I can deal with Chartreuse Garden's matter without Nicole's help. If that's all you want to say, I'll hang up now. I'm going to bed now. Stop saying that other women suit me better. I don't want my wife to get upset.”

He then hung up immediately after.

Cayden's words left Allie feeling awkward.

She said those words out loud precisely because she knew for a fact that Avery was beside Cayden. Alas, Cayden didn't bother showing her any respect.

In the meantime, Avery couldn't believe that Cayden would talk to Allie that way.

Nevertheless, she had to admit that it felt good when she imagined how frustrated Allie was.

Avery handed the milk to Cayden. “You've worked for a long time, so have some milk. No matter how busy you are, you must take care of your health. Actually, it might really be easier to solve Chartreuse Garden's problem with Nicole's help.”

Hearing her words, Cayden didn't accept the glass of milk. Instead, he scowled unhappily.

His dark, intense gaze signaled the arrival of a storm.

Narrowing his gaze, he inched nearer to her. “Really?”

Sensing his dangerous aura, Avery couldn't stop her heart from racing. She stared into his black and penetrating eyes that seemed to suck her soul away.

Cowering back, she placed the glass on the desk.

Cayden stared at her intently before putting his arms around her waist to pin her to the wall. “You don't trust me, huh?”

His heated breath mingled with her anxious quick pants as they stood in an intimate position.

“Of course I trust you.” Avery gazed at him with her sparkling eyes that brimmed with trust.

Pleased, Cayden nodded. “Mm, good. Don't say silly things to upset me again.”

“Okay.”

“Now that you know you've made a mistake, it's time for you to apologize sincerely.”

“How do I do that?” Avery raised her head in confusion.

“Kiss me!”

Avery blinked twice. As she was so much shorter than him, she could barely kiss his lips despite standing on tiptoes.

Craning her neck, she gave him a firm kiss on the lips.

Cayden frowned in dissatisfaction. “That's too perfunctory. Don't you remember anything from what I taught you?”

Thus, Avery wrapped her arms around his neck and offered him her lips once again. Just like what he had taught her previously, she forced his lips open and slid her tongue into his mouth.

At once, Cayden took the initiative.

They forgot all their worries and spent a passionate night in the study.

The next day, Cayden left to work before dawn.

Avery woke up at eight as usual. Cayden was nowhere to be seen when she woke up.

She washed herself up in the bathroom downstairs and came out to see an uninvited visitor sitting in the living room.

Allie scowled when she saw Avery coming out of the bathroom and immediately reprimanded, “Why are you up this late? I can't believe you slept in when something big happened to Cayden's company. Fortunately, you don't live in the Moore residence. Otherwise, Lily will mock me for having a daughter-in-law like you! My son cannot afford to have such a pampered woman as his wife!”

Avery was upset to be reprimanded for no reason.
