Sensing her uneasiness, Cayden gave her a comforting hug so tight as if he never wanted to let her go. “Don't think too much. Things will come to an end soon.”

Avery flashed a weak smile in response.

She stood on her toes and gave him a peck on his lips. “We'll wait for you at home.”

Cayden lowered his head to trail kisses all over her gorgeous nape.

After that, he drove away.

Avery stood on the second floor of the mansion as she watched the Bentley speed away. A sharp pang hit her heart.

She would be lying if she claimed she wasn't bothered by Cayden's “date” with Nicole.

Despite knowing it was just an act on Cayden's behalf, Avery felt couldn't shake off that thought in her mind.

Alas, they had no other choice. The only way to solve the disk's matter was to bear with Nicole's actions.

The evening sky was dark, but Nicole was seen wearing a pair of sunglasses as she drove her car to the parking lot of Number Nine Eatery. She seemed to be in an exceptionally cheerful mood.

After parking her car, she was about to get out when a black figure materialized before her car.

She then heard someone shrieking in pain. “Ow! Oh, someone, help! This luxury car has just hit me!”

Nicole's heart sank as she rushed to open the car door. As her heels touched the ground, she noticed a middle-aged man, his clothes tattered and hair disheveled, lying in a feeble state right in front of her.

He seemed to be “hurt” as blood was trickling down his tanned arms and legs.

Strangely, Nicole realized this homeless man seemed familiar.

However, the filth on his face caused her to turn away in disgust.

She drove at a slow speed, so it was impossible for her to hit anyone. Besides, the homeless man only materialized and lay in front of her car after she parked her car. Obviously, he was a scammer.

In the past, Nicole would certainly have taken the time to confront the scammer and warn him, but she was running late in order to make her date with Cayden and couldn't afford to waste time.

Fishing out a few hundred from her purse, she tossed them at the homeless man as though he was a beggar. “Take the money and scram! Otherwise, I'm going to call the police!”

The homeless man's arm was dripping with blood, yet he still managed to nimbly clutch the paper bills in his hand and swiftly shove them into his pocket. Delight flashed across his eyes when he saw Nicole clad in a trendy outfit.

He promptly forgot to keep up his act and scrambled up to fling his arms around Nicole's legs.

“Oh, my daughter! My darling Nickie, I have been looking for you for so long! Finally, we meet again! You have no idea of the struggles I have gone through to find you. I couldn't even afford to buy a meal while you are living a luxurious life, yet you ignored my struggles and pain. How could you be so ungrateful and unfilial”? His voice broke as he spoke, filled with anguish and sorrow.

Nicole blanched in horror when she heard the man calling herself his daughter.

She took a good look at the homeless man. It took her a few moments to realize that it was Daniel, the same person who had been bothering her relentlessly not long ago.

“Let go! You've got the wrong person. I'm not the person you're looking for. If you refuse to let go, I'll scream for help!” Nicole threatened Daniel angrily as she struggled to pry his hands off her legs.

However, Daniel refused to let go. “No! I'm sure you're my daughter. You look exactly like your mother, Sandra! You're my daughter. Nicole Schmidt! Plus, I remember that you have a birthmark as big as a thumb on your left armpit. I asked around and found out that the man you claimed was your father only has an adopted daughter from the orphanage. That's you! Nickie, if you don't believe me, you're welcome to take my hair to run a DNA test!”

William was not at all secretive about having adopted a daughter from the orphanage, so it was natural for Daniel to learn the truth after asking around.

After bumping into Nicole twice, Daniel started suspecting that she was his daughter as she had an uncanny resemblance to his wife, Sandra.

Daniel had a daughter with Sandra. As he was fond of gambling, he ended up owing a huge sum of money to the casino. The loan shark threatened to chop off his hands if he couldn't pay them back.

Afraid they would take action for real, Daniel sold his wife and intended to sell his daughter as well. Despite her young age, Nicole was smart enough to sneak away on the day the seller was supposed to pick her up.

As a result, Daniel was given a harsh beating by the seller and nearly became a cripple.

Over the years, he had been trying to track Nicole down. His efforts weren't in vain, for he had finally found her.

Daniel was elated to realize that his daughter, who used to be tanned and skinny, was now a gorgeous celebrity. His insatiable appetite drove him to get more money from her.
