Chapter 562 Speechless

Cayden and the others headed toward Misty Highlands.

Misty Highlands, a picturesque location, earned its name due to the frequent occurrence of mist that engulfed the mountain range throughout the year. The scenic beauty of this place was akin to that of a wonderland, and tourists from various parts of the world visited it to behold its allure.

Between several towering mountains was a majestic waterfall. The raging waters that descended formed a natural lake at the bottom of Misty Highlands. The water looked turquoise from afar but was actually clear. It was like a gemstone embedded in the ground, and so, the people called it Turquoise Falls.

The group drove toward a popular homestay named Misty Days.

Located next to Turquoise Falls, Misty Days was constructed entirely from wood, lending it a distinctive appearance. Inside, the space was open and welcoming, evoking a sense of comfort.

The owners of the homestay were a loving young couple.

The man was tall and elegant, and the woman was beautiful and wise. They were wearing traditional clothes, and they stood out against the crowd.

When Avery and the others arrived, the young couple welcomed them enthusiastically with kind smiles.

Even though the young couple noticed their expensive clothes and knew that Avery and her family were no ordinary people, they continued to treat her and her family no differently than others, and that left a favorable impression on Avery.

The moment Avery arrived at her destination, her attention was caught by the picturesque place. For a moment, she forgot all the worries she had and merrily took Stephanie's hand before wandering with the children.

Cayden, who was smoking by the waterfall, curled his lips when he heard Avery laughing while talking to Stephanie.

He could see that his decision to bring Avery out for a trip had been right. What he loved seeing most was her carefree smile.

In contrast, the four attractive men of different styles lying on the rattan recliners were feeling awkward.

Jacob, the most extroverted of them all, was the one who broke the silence. “Say, Cayden, why did you drag us here if your wife's feeling down? You say it's a holiday, but it's June. We're all going to melt from the sun before we can even travel around. Also, don't you think it's strange for us men to sit together and stare at each other?”

Cayden, who was also lying on a recliner, had his eyes fixed on Avery.

When he saw her bright smile, he joyously replied, “What's the matter? Are you complaining even though I'm giving you a chance to relax? I know you're busy expanding your businesses and venturing into new areas, but no matter how busy you are, you've got to take time off the relax. You'll never be able to earn everyone's money, so you need to learn to enjoy life too. What's the point of earning that much otherwise?”

Jacob placed a hand on his forehead and muttered, “I can't believe I can't retort that...”

Xander sarcastically chimed in, “The real reason behind Mr. Cayden's invitation and speech is probably because he doesn't know how to appease the angry Avery. That's why he's taking the opportunity to ask us how he should console her. Alas, I'm not good at this. To me, women are nothing but trouble. If you need someone's advice, I'd tell you to ask Jacob and the wanton Kendrick. They're terribly experienced.”

Kendrick cleared his throat. “Ahem! What do you mean, Xander? What do you mean by we're terribly experienced? Although I have tons of women by my side, I'm far from being wanton. I'm saving their souls, you know? Think about it. They're throwing themselves at me, and if I reject them, I'll be hurting their fragile hearts. If I reject them, they might get depression and end their lives. I'd be a sinner! So, you can't say that I'm a wanton man. I'm being selfless.”

Several gazes of disdain landed on Kendrick immediately.

It was the first time they had heard someone redefine their womanizing ways in such a way.

Kendrick rubbed his nose sheepishly at their stares before pulling his sun hat lower to cover his face. He was essentially sticking his head in the sand.

Once Cayden finished his cigarette, he extinguished it in the ashtray before folding his arm behind him and lying back down on the recliner. “This place is nice, and anyone can momentarily forget the bustling city life. Maybe that's why people run to the countryside to temporarily cast their worries away.”

As the recliners were made with rattan and could rock, Cayden swayed along with it.

Beside every recliner was a small wooden table made in the shape of a flower, and on each table was a pot of tea. Its floral scent was strong but pleasant to the nose.

The blue sky was so vivid that it seemed to dominate the earth below. It was as if one could reach out and soar into the clouds with just a touch.

Under the white clouds, a hundred-year-old tree was growing beside Turquoise Falls. Its trunk was twisted, but it remained sturdy, and its leaves remained plentiful. A small part of the tree was submerged in the lake, and a cut-off part of its trunk told the age of the tree. Once in a while, a few birds would glide past the surface of the lake to catch the fish in the water. Then, it would agilely swoop past the branches. It was a picture of life.

In this place, there were no ruthless corporate battles or reminders of human greed. Frustrations about life were non-existent, and time appeared to pass at a leisurely pace.

When Jacob registered the leisurely look Cayden had, he arched his brow and said, “Hey, are we really going to lie here for the entire evening? I know that, here, the sky is really blue, the water is really green, and the scene is really beautiful, but I have a business to attend to in the evening—”
