Chapter 639 Why Is He So Domineering

Avery stared blankly out the window and even saw the blurred streak of Cayden's sports car speeding away.

Deep within, she felt a tad upset and angry.

She even felt somewhat resentful.

Argh! Why is he so domineering that he doesn't consider my feelings in the least? I know Sid paid a heavy price to save him. Not only did the man forcibly change his own appearance, but he also took on false criminal charges on his behalf. I'm also aware that saving Sid is the right thing to do. But did he ever consider himself, me, and our kids? Even though Sid took the blame for him, he still found a way to get Sid out of prison at the end of the day. He even helped the man escape the pursuit of the Irushean mafia. Wasn't all that enough to repay him?

The more she thought about it, the angrier she became. She hugged her knees and buried her face, which was flushed red, between them.

But beyond her sadness, she was very much worried. What if something really happens to him?

Seeing that Avery was in a bad mood, Lorraine put down the vacuum cleaner she was holding and walked over to her. She gently suggested, “Would you like me to assist you back to your bedroom for some rest, Mrs. Moore?”

Avery nodded blankly before walking back to her bedroom by herself.

At that moment, she felt troubled and truly needed some rest.

But after she lay in bed, she did not feel any better.

Autumn had arrived.

The sweet scent of the maple tree wafted into her nostrils, and its branches swayed in front of the window on the second floor.

The weather was splendid, and the world was beautiful, yet Avery felt terribly distressed.

She was in a bad mood the entire day, so depressed that she hardly ate anything.

Cayden did not call her at all. When she tried to reach him, his phone was switched off.

That night, Avery had a nightmare. In her dream, she saw Cayden being stabbed and collapsing to the ground. He was covered in blood and continuously coughed up blood.

She wailed at the top of her lungs in the dream, calling out his name, wanting to save him. Alas, no one heard her or came to his rescue.

That aside, she also dreamed of them walking down a bustling street hand in hand. Suddenly, he turned to her and said, “Darling, I need to take care of something. Wait here for me. I'll be right back.”

She nodded obediently, watching as his tall and slender figure gradually disappeared into the crowd.

But from sunrise to sunset, she waited in vain for his return.

Worse still, she dreamed of him being shot in a deserted place.

She watched helplessly as the bullet struck his skull, with nowhere for him to hide.

“Ah!”

Avery jolted awake in fright, drenched in cold sweat and gasping for air.

In the darkness of the night, only a dim yellow night light emanated a weak glow.

Unable to sleep anymore, Avery took out her phone and called Cayden again, but it still went to voicemail.

She felt somewhat numb, the anger and despair from the endless unanswered phone calls having transformed entirely into worry and fear for him then.

Gazing at the bright moonlight outside the window, she clasped her hands together and prayed fervently.

I hope you are safe and sound, Cayden!

Meanwhile, the plane landed in Mocset after almost ten hours in the air.

By the time Cayden finally arrived, it was already evening.

He unlocked his phone, only to see a slew of missed calls and a barrage of messages from Avery, all expressing concern for him.

Cayden wanted to call her back, but considering the five-hour time difference between Chanaea and Remdik, it was already close to midnight in the country.

Thinking that Avery might have gone to bed and realizing that calling or texting her then would only add to her worries, he decided not to disrupt her.

The airport was bustling with people coming and going. There were many handsome men and beautiful women, all with blonde hair and blue eyes.

Even though Cayden was wearing sunglasses, his exceedingly handsome features, mysterious and unfathomable Eastern charm, and height and physique that were on par with those of Eastern Epean men, he continuously attracted the attention of Remdikian beauties.

In fact, some bold and outgoing Remdikian beauties took the initiative to approach him to strike up a conversation. However, they were blocked by the bodyguards Cayden brought and could only shrug regretfully.

Cayden and his entourage headed out of the airport, making for a grand sight.

Someone came to pick them up from the airport. It was the general manager of the Trident Group's Remdik branch, who had been notified in advance, and his assistant.

The general manager was a very mature and composed middle-aged man.

As he walked behind Cayden, he reported the information he had on “Taron” to the man. “Taron is an exceedingly ruthless man. He's involved in smuggling, drug trafficking, and arms dealing. He's notorious around here, known for his love of exploiting other people's weaknesses. Many corporations and tycoons have been blackmailed. But because our company is under the protection of the Remdikian government, he hasn't dared to act brazenly. However, I'm worried that it might be dangerous for you to go alone this time. Should I hire more guards?”

Cayden shook his head in demurral. “This is his territory, and a local gangster is above the law. No matter how many men we bring, it wouldn't make a difference.”

For that reason, he did not bring many people with him, merely Jake and four other bodyguards.
