Chapter 648 Explaining To A Pregnant Woman

Seeing how anxious Avery was, Claire gave Nicole a reproachful look, then handed her own phone over. “You can use mine first, Ery.”

“Thank you, Mrs. Lambert.” Avery took the phone and immediately dialed Cayden's number.

However, she was constantly greeted by the message of the line being unreachable.

Avery was panicking. Her rapid and heavy breathing revealed her anxiety.

Undeterred, she persistently dialed Cayden's number, yet the outcome continued to disappoint her.

Left with no other choice, she tried calling Jake, but there was still no answer. That only made her more anxious.

In a state of extreme anxiety, she called Xavier.

It rang for only a few seconds before Xavier answered the call, “Ms. Rumpley?”

“Do you have any other ways to contact Cayden, Mr. Dartsley?” Avery said, her voice filled with urgency. “I've been trying to call him, but I can't get through. I don't know what's going on.”

“Please remain calm, Ms. Rumpley,” Xavier said soothingly. “I will first get in touch with the staff on the Remdikian side, and I'll get back to you shortly.”

“Please hurry!” Avery cried urgently. 'My phone is broken, so please call this number when you get back to me later.”

“I will.”

After hanging up, Avery still felt somewhat restless.

Claire gently helped her to the couch. “Try not to get too worked up, Ery,” she said softly. “Cayden will be fine. You need to look after the baby in your belly.”

Avery collapsed onto the couch and ran her fingers through her hair. Despite trying hard to calm herself, she could not quell her panic.

Meanwhile, despite her ongoing whispered conversation with Navya, Nicole was clearly becoming tense. The speed at which she was cracking melon seeds had noticeably slowed down.

Her eyes would occasionally dart toward Avery, with her ears perked up, secretly tuning in to the unfolding situation.

Despite all the cruel things Cayden had done to her, Nicole felt uneasy the moment she heard his name.

After about ten minutes, Claire's phone rang. Though it had not been a long wait, it felt to Avery like an eternity.

She picked up at once. “Any news from Cayden, Mr. Dartsley?”

Xavier was silent for a few seconds on the other end. He seemed grim. “The staff over there are temporarily unable to contact Mr. Moore, Ms. Rumpley. There might be a problem. I must make a trip to Remdik.”

Upon hearing that something might have happened to Cayden, Avery clapped a hand over her mouth in horror, desperately holding back her tears. “No, it can't be. He promised me he would come back safely!”

“This is merely our first assumption, Ms. Rumpley,” Xavier said seriously. “Please don't worry. I'm going to book a flight to Mocset right away, and I'll contact you as soon as I have any news. Mr. Moore has specifically instructed me before he left to calm you down if you can't reach him. He will come back no matter what.”

After she hung up, Avery shook. Her shoulders were heaving with despair.

Claire pulled Avery into her arms. “Oh, Ery...”

The warmth of the embrace shattered Avery's composure. She could no longer hold back. “Mrs. Lambert...” she choked.

The sight of Avery's grief brought tears to Claire's eyes as well.

She took a tissue and dabbed Avery's tears. “Silly girl, don't fret over things before they become certain. The most important thing that you can do right now is to take care of your health and patiently wait for news of Cayden. What if you collapse when he gets back? Would that be worth it?”

Avery took a deep breath. Her eyes were bloodshot. She suddenly realized that Claire was holding her and felt embarrassed for losing her composure in front of Claire. She wiped her eyes somewhat apologetically. “I'm sorry for making a fool of myself in front of you today, Mrs. Lambert.”

“It's all right, we all have moments when we are vulnerable,” Claire said with a kindly smile. “I wasn't even as good at controlling my emotions as you are when I was your age. In fact, I was quite the crybaby back then!”

With Claire's patient consolations, Avery managed to subdue her grief.

Mrs. Lambert is right. We may not be able to reach him now, but that doesn't necessarily mean something bad has happened. What I need to do is wait patiently.

Noticing how frail Avery was, Claire gently patted the former's shoulder, her heart aching terribly. She decided to have Avery over to the Lambert residence more often to nourish her back to health.

Meanwhile, on the outskirts of Mocset, Sid only found out about the incident involving Cayden five hours after it happened.

By the time he arrived at the valley, all he saw were several charred corpses and pools of blood, still fresh.

At a glance, Sid spotted the off-road vehicle that Cayden had been traveling in. It was now nothing more than a charred, blackened hull.

Beside him lay a corpse, bearing a striking resemblance to Cayden, still gently smoldering. Its features had been completely obliterated by the flames.
