Chapter 24
It had been three years, and yet when Kris grabbed her by the arm, Thalassa felt the same current as before. It imitated her because she wanted nothing to do with it.
1 don’t appreciate being touched without my permission, so let go of me, Mr. Miller. And what did you call me?” she said calmly.
Kris narrowed his eyes at her. He’d felt her tense up when he called her Thalassa, but now he wasn’t so sure, hearing the nonchalance in her voice. He wished he could see the expression on her face, but the d**n mask she was wearing made that impossible.
Reluctantly, he let go of her arm. 1 don’t like how you spoke to my mother.”
“And how did I speak to her?” she asked.
“You were rude,” he pointed out.
Thalassa gritted her teeth. He knew the kind of woman his mother was and yet still defended her.
“Well, good thing I’m not here to cater to what you like or don’t like,” she stated. “Besides, I wasn’t rude to her. I merely told her what I would tell anyone who wants a meeting with me. She needs to set up an appointment. Why do you expect me to give her special treatment?”
“You sent an invitation that was personally addressed to us.”
“So you think that makes you guys special?” She chuckled in a way that he found familiar. 1 sent that invitation because I thought she was one of the biggest players in the fashion industry.”
“She is,” Kris gritted out.
“Is she?” Thalassa twisted her lips mockingly. “Good for her then, but she will still need to set up an appointment if she wants a meeting with me.”
“T… I’ve been looking all over for you,” a woman said as she approached. “Are
you busy?
The green gown she was wearing was just as beautiful, but her mask wasn’t as big as the masked
woman’s.
“No. The gentleman and I are finished with our conversation.”
With that, they walked away, leaving Kris staring after them, his eyes still narrowed. Sighing, he walked back to where his family was.
“She still insists that we book an appointment,” Kris answered.
“How rude can she be? his aunt said. “Doesn’t she know who we are?”
“She thinks so highly of herself just because her company is at the top now. We shall see,” his mother gritted out.
Kris grimaced. Why wasn’t anyone else talking about the similarities between this woman and Thalassa? Or was he the only one who could see it?

Chapter 24
For the rest of the party, he couldn’t take his eyes off her, following her everywhere she walked, but she never looked back at him even once.
He waited. Waited for her to take off her mask and reveal her face, but that never happened.
Later, after the party had ended, Thalassa stepped out of the shower into her bedroom as she toweled off her body.
A knock sounded on the door, and Luisa entered when Thalassa told her to come in.
“How are you feeling?” Luisa asked as she dropped onto the bed.
“I feel fantastic. Tonight couldn’t have gone better,” Thalassa replied.
Luisa stared at her, unconvinced. She knew Thalassa was only putting up a nonchalant front.
“Lassa, are you sure?”
Thalassa was about to insist but let out a sigh. Her best friend knew her too well. Luisa was the only one who could read her like an open book.
“No, I’m not fine, Luisa. I can never be truly fine until my mission for returning has been completed,” she admitted.
Today was the first time in three years that she’d had in front of her the people who’d betrayed and destroyed her life in the worst way possible. It had stirred so many emotions inside her: anger, resentment, rage.
Only God knows how she’d been able to maintain her composure.
“What about Kris? How did you feel… seeing him and Karen together?” Luisa asked cautiously.
Thal***a’s eyes darkened. “What are you trying to ask me, Luisa? Whether I felt jealous seeing them together?”
Dropping the bathrobe she was wearing, she picked up her nightwear from the bed and slipped it on before turning back to Luisa.
ran
“Do you really think I still feel anything for a man who had a hand in my suffering? A man who didn’t give a d**n when I needed him the most?”
“Okay, I’m sorry. No need to get so defensive,” Luisa said, raising her arms in surrender.
Thalassa sighed, picking up her towel to dry her hair some more.
Yes, seeing Kris kiss Karen so lovingly had upset her, but not because she was jealous. She was upset because none of them had any right to be happy after all they put her through, and she was going to make sure of that.
“I can’t believe nobody recognized you,” Luisa quickly changed the subject.
Kris called me by my name,” Thalassa revealed.
Luisa’s eyes widened. “He already knows it’s you?”
